Leah Remini, Angelo Pagán explain why they're divorcing after 21 years of marriage

As a movie lover who has witnessed a myriad of love stories unfold on screen and off, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán as they navigate through this new chapter in their lives. Their decision to part ways after 21 years of marriage and 28 years together is undeniably challenging, yet it’s heartening to see their unwavering bond and commitment to each other even amidst change.

Actress Leah Remini, famously known for her role in “King of Queens,” and her longtime partner Angelo Pagán have decided to part ways after close to three decades together.

As a movie enthusiast putting my thoughts into words, I’d say something like this: After nearly two decades of sharing the screen together, my dear partner and I, now in our mid-50s, took to social media to share a difficult truth. We’ve decided to part ways, bringing an end to our 28-year journey together. It seems that, just like characters evolve in a film, we too have changed over the years. We found ourselves slipping into roles that no longer felt authentic, and so we chose to write new scripts for ourselves, apart but still connected by the love we shared on set.

They expressed this choice followed extensive contemplation and concern, acknowledging that divorce can be challenging. However, they are tackling it optimistically since they believe it’s the right path for them.

“They expressed their satisfaction with how they’ve navigated this situation jointly. They acknowledged feeling sadness and the need to adapt as they progress towards a new routine, yet remain intertwined in many aspects while also experiencing some changes that keep them apart. However, they emphasized their long-standing friendship, continuing to celebrate holidays, watch favorite shows together, and maintain their family gatherings.”

They mentioned that they were venturing forth into “unexplored grounds” following “considerable work and thought,” and that their choice embodies who they are currently.

The statement expressed, “Though our relationship has changed and taken on a new form, its strength remains unwavering.” They believe that a union lasting as long as theirs, filled with cherished memories like raising their amazing daughter, is truly something to be commemorated. From their point of view, this marriage was an undeniable success.

In television appearances on VH1 and Remini’s TLC series “It’s All Relative,” New Yorkers openly discussed their relationship, which aired for two seasons. They expressed their intention to be as open as possible about their separation in the hopes of providing a broader perspective on various relationships and helping others avoid feelings of isolation when dealing with changes experienced by many couples annually. In simpler terms, they wanted to share their story honestly, hoping it could help others facing similar situations.

They expressed their hope that their experiences could motivate others to understand that changes or endings in relationships do not equate to failure. Instead, they plan on continuing to share glimpses into their life’s journey during this new phase.

In 1996, Leah Remini crossed paths with Pagán for the first time. At that moment, the multitalented Puerto Rican artist was entertaining audiences at El Floridita – a Cuban eatery and nightclub in Hollywood. According to Remini’s interview with Redbook in 2010, it was love at first sight for her. The couple tied the knot in 2003 and welcomed their daughter, Sofia Bella, in 2004. It is worth noting that Pagán already had three sons from a prior relationship.

Apart from his musical endeavors, he stood by his wife during her challenging exit from the Church of Scientology. This experience was chronicled in her 2015 book titled “Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology” and later portrayed in the docu-series “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.”

In May, according to The New York Post, Leah Remini and her longtime companion Jennifer Lopez reestablished their friendship after rumors surfaced about Lopez separating from husband Ben Affleck. Lopez recently filed for divorce this month, marking the end of her two-year marriage to the Academy Award recipient.
