Spider-Man and Alien stars team up for Manchester-set rom-com

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated through countless virtual worlds and stories, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement at the prospect of diving into the real-life tale that is ‘CC: Emily’. Being a connoisseur of both British humour and romantic comedies, this new venture from Focus Features and Working Title has piqued my interest.

If the upcoming release of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy next year hasn’t already made it clear that British romantic comedies are making a comeback, then get ready for another one on its way from Focus Features and Working Title.

Actress Angourie Rice, recognized from her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man trilogy and the updated version of Mean Girls, is joining forces with Spike Fearn, known for his role in Alien: Romulus, for a romantic comedy titled CC: Emily, set in Manchester.

In the movie by Alicia MacDonald, directed masterfully, I found myself immersed in a tale penned by Rachel Hirons. The story revolves around me, a lovelorn musician named Fearn, who ends up with the wrong phone number for my dream girl.

Later on, he forms an alliance with a determined psychology student named Rice in search of her, causing quite a humorous whirlwind across the campus that challenges both their emotions and aspirations. However, it seems plausible that his musical ideal woman could be someone different…

The movie producers refer to “CC: Emily” as a heartfelt tribute to Manchester, and the filming of this romantic comedy is currently underway, primarily on location within and surrounding Manchester.

Alicia MacDonald makes her first appearance as a film director with this project, having previously contributed to shows such as Pure, Flack, and The Outlaws on television.

The film, marked as “CC: Emily,” is created by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner at Working Title, along with Olivier Kaempfet from Parkville Pictures. Focus Entertainment owns the global rights to this movie, with Universal Pictures International taking care of its international distribution.

Beyond my current excitement watching myself on the big screen in “Alien: Romulus,” I’ve just finished shooting a captivating project titled “Ella McCay.” This remarkable production boasts an incredible ensemble cast including Emma Mackey, Jack Lowden, Ayo Edebiri, the legendary Jamie Lee Curtis, and the talented Woody Harrelson. Can’t wait for you all to see it!

Previously this year, Rice discussed with Digital Spy that the “Mean Girls” reboot was essentially a fresh take or reinvention, rather than a direct remake.

She clarified, “We’re not replacing or diminishing any existing versions of ‘Mean Girls.’ Instead, it’s an extension or addition. The reason we’re doing this is simply because we all adore ‘Mean Girls’ so deeply.”

CC: Emily does not yet have a release date.
