Australian musician reveals the insane amount he paid to ‘become’ Liam Gallagher… amid Oasis reunion shock
As a die-hard Oasis fan since their inception, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for Darren Spiby and his dedication to embodying Liam Gallagher in NOASIS. With a life savings depleted by an astonishing $200,000, it’s clear that this tribute band is more than just a hobby; it’s a labor of love that transcends mere monetary value.
As discussions on an Oasis reunion escalate to a peak, one Australian artist has shared the astounding expense associated with transforming into Liam Gallagher.
Darren Spiby, the man behind Liam’s character in the Oasis tribute band NOASIS, has confessed that he’s shelled out a staggering $200,000 to mirror the legendary British rocker’s appearance.
For over two decades, starting with the establishment of his tribute band in the UK during the mid-90s, Darren has disclosed that he’s shelled out a significant amount, approximately $120,000, on clothing resembling the original artist of Wonderwall. This includes Adidas Spezial parkas, shoes (trainers), and bucket hats.
Additionally, the band spent $25,000 on unique guitars, among them was a seldom-seen Union Jack model, identical to Noel’s and boasting colors symbolizing his beloved Manchester City football team.
Additionally, the costly shopping spree doesn’t stop there. An extra $13,000 was spent on a scooter, affectionately named ‘Lyla’, reminiscent of the Oasis 2005 hit, and an additional $5,000 went towards purchasing a bespoke wig from Italy.
The group also invested approximately $12,000 to reproduce the famous album artwork of Oasis’ influential 1997 release, ‘Be Here Now’. This cost included hiring a Rolls Royce car and a 3-meter telephone booth for the project.
In conversation with Daily Mail Australia, Darren shared that although maintaining a high level of detail might not be budget-friendly, it certainly proves valuable.
‘Financially, it might not be worth it, but maybe it will all come to fruition,’ Darren said.
‘I’m optimistic that it will all be worthwhile in the long run, and I truly believe it will. Moreover, the memories we’ve created together in this band are simply invaluable.’
Darren mentioned that he can rely on a worldwide team of assistants, who are ready to step in when needed, as finding the necessary items could consume all his time.
As a diligent observer, I’ve established a small global network of allies who act as my far-reaching eyes, alerting me to opportunities and occurrences that may otherwise elude my immediate reach.
One well-known Liam coat I recently acquired was previously seen in South America, and a friend of mine from that region contacted me to exclaim, “Darren, I’ve found something remarkable! You simply must get it.”
Darren added, “I have another person who is helpful too. He used to live in New Zealand, and he’s deeply involved in fashion. So, I often refer to him as my personal stylist or backstage assistant.”
‘In fact, I’m just looking at a couple of jackets that he brought in yesterday morning.
Actually, one of Darren’s valued possessions – a pair of maracas that once belonged to Liam – was handed to him by an audience member. This happened when Liam tossed the maracas into the crowd during his 2022 solo concert in Melbourne.
Darren, founder of NOASIS in the UK since 1995, expressed a mix of apprehension and hope regarding a possible Oasis reunion.
‘I’m a bit nervous that it’s not the news that everybody wants,’ he said.
However, I’m incredibly thrilled, buddy! It’s truly an honor to be part of this, as I established it all back in 1995, during the initial Oasis craze. To see it return and complete the loop is quite extraordinary.
According to reports, Noel Gallagher, the lead singer of Oasis, apparently conceded to the speculated Oasis reunion following a series of late-night conversations with his brother Liam. During this conversation, they supposedly resolved their 15-year long disagreement.
In 2009, the tense brother-sister dynamic escalated following a disagreement backstage in Paris, which ultimately resulted in Noel, aged 57 at the time, departing from the renowned Britpop group.
However, just as Liam concluded his performance at the Reading Festival, he hinted that a possible announcement might surface on Tuesday at 8:00 am.
An image similar to the Oasis logo was briefly displayed on a big screen overhead, followed by its posting on Oasis, Liam, and X’s respective Instagram accounts.
As per the latest updates, it seems that the plans for the reunion were finalized following a late-night conversation on the phone. Apparently, Noel had been expressing his feelings persistently before reaching an agreement.
According to a source, both Noel and Liam Gallagher aren’t likely to become close pals again, but they aim to reunite Oasis for the sake of their fans.
‘Noel dug his heels in for a long time but has finally caved and agreed to return.
I’ve been practically bursting at the seams with excitement! I just had a heart-to-heart chat with Liam over the phone, and let me tell you, we’re absolutely united in our anticipation. We both know that this upcoming reunion is destined to etch its name in the annals of music history!
Oasis has been promised a payday of £50 million to reform and embark on a global tour.
