10 things we hope to see in the final season of Superman & Lois

As a long-time fan of Superman and the Arrowverse, I must say that season 4 of Superman & Lois has me truly excited! The casting of Cudlitz as Lex Luthor is a bold move, and one that I believe will pay off handsomely. His portrayal of a hulking, vengeful Luthor who focuses more on Clark than Superman is intriguing, and I can’t wait to see him cut loose in this iconic role.

As a die-hard fan of Superman & Lois, I can hardly contain my excitement as we gear up for the thrilling final season this autumn. Here’s what I truly hope to witness during their swan song:

Over the past few years, The CW has experienced significant changes due to network turbulence and the termination of numerous series. This upheaval even affected the popular Arrowverse, with Superman & Lois managing to secure a renewal for its fourth and final season. Fortunately, this news comes after the third season ended on a massive cliffhanger with Superman fighting Doomsday.

Preparing for the start of Season 4, with its major cast changes and limited ten-episode run, here are ten exciting elements we’d like to witness in Superman & Lois season 4, ensuring this farewell tour is memorable for fans.

Reign of the Supermen

It seems that Superman manages to overcome his fight with Doomsday; however, it might take some time for this information to reach the world. This opens up an opportunity to explore a variation of the “Reign of the Supermen” plot, where four potential replacements of Superman emerge. Since we have Jordan and Steel already, we could develop fresh takes on the Cyborg and Eradicator characters instead.

If the Cyborg reveals himself to be malevolent, it could lead to another confrontation with Superman in the future. This twist could reinforce the central theme of the story – that there’s only one genuine Superman admired by the world. It would be exciting to see this iconic storyline play out and underscore the significance of Superman once more.

A proper farewell to past characters

Without a doubt, it’s clear that season 4 has experienced a significant reduction in the main cast members. Let’s hope they don’t dismiss these departures as insignificant. It would be intriguing to find out if Lana and John Henry’s relationship endured and whether Lana still holds the mayoral position. We should also catch up on Chrissy and her child, and of course, learn about any developments with Sam.

Additionally, it’s interesting to note that Sarah is uncovering the hidden truths about the Kents, which promises even more excitement. It won’t be simple, but it’s essential for the series not to ignore these characters; instead, they should receive fitting goodbyes to acknowledge their significance in the eyes of the show’s audience.

Jimmy Olsen is great

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that even with numerous changes, we’re getting a familiar face stepping into the shoes of Superman’s pal at the Daily Planet – none other than Jimmy Olsen, who will now be our photographer. Douglas Smith brings Jimmy to life, portraying him as an introvert trying to make friends with Clark. Unlike Mehcad Brooks’ interpretation on Supergirl, where he strived to become a hero himself, it’ll be refreshing to see a Jimmy character that’s closer to the original concept.

1. The character we’re looking for should have a bit of clumsiness but be willing to take risks, making him an accomplished photographer. We want him to gradually emerge from his reserved nature. This character needs to maintain the charm of previous depictions while seamlessly blending into Lois’s reporting work, making his debut all the more exciting.

Supergirl arrives

In simpler terms, the Earth depicted in the TV series “Superman & Lois” differs from that of “Supergirl” on The CW. This allows for a separate incarnation of Kara Zor-El to appear, potentially during the “Reign of Supermen,” and offering assistance. Additionally, it could involve Clark discovering his long-lost cousin who has just arrived on Earth to seek help herself.

Since it’s uncertain if Melissa Benoist would reprise her role, we may need to introduce a new actress to portray this character. It could be exciting to see a fresh interpretation of this heroine who can continue the Superman legacy in a unique manner and serve as a tribute to the enjoyable series that spawned Superman & Lois.

Superboy Costume

In the upcoming season 4, it’s beneficial that Jordan emerges as an independent hero in Superman’s absence. However, he requires a more fitting attire than a simple dark suit and goggles to embody the role of Superboy effectively. The costume shouldn’t be a carbon copy of the comics but should instead be modern, fashionable, and uniquely Jordan’s own. This design should reflect his individuality while still acknowledging his lineage. A well-designed costume for Jordan is crucial in establishing him as a distinct hero, rather than simply imitating his father (no cape involved). Developing Jordan as an individual hero is essential for season 4, and the right costume could be a significant stride towards achieving that goal.

Jonathan Gets His Due

Jonathan has been given less engaging plotlines compared to other characters on the show. The “kryptonite steroid” story arc didn’t develop as expected and he seems adrift now that Sarah is no longer there. He requires a captivating narrative that allows him to take center stage instead of constantly playing second fiddle to Jordan.

Reducing the number of characters (cast culling) provides Jonathan with additional chances to appear on-screen more frequently, especially since this is the final season. Rather than allowing him to linger in the same position again, it’s wiser to make him a self-made hero instead.

A terrifying Luthor

It appears Michael Cudlitz is going to be a major force in season 4, which makes sense, as you can’t have Superman without his iconic arch-enemy. But Cudlitz is going in a different direction than past Luthor actors who emphasized his smarts and cunning. Instead, he’s a hulking brute who’s out for payback on Clark and Lois, and the fun dynamic is it’s Clark he has a beef with more than Superman.

We need a mix of the brains and brawn for Luthor, a man who can outwit anyone but also beat someone down in a fight. Cudlitz looks great in the role and hopefully, season 4 allows him to really cut loose and make this version of Luthor one of the all-time greatest takes on an iconic villain.

Some Great Chlois moments

Season 3 presented some challenging times for our primary characters, as Lois fought cancer and Clark was preoccupied by numerous dangers. To restore the magic that made this series successful initially, we should focus on the exceptional camaraderie between the leads and the heartwarming bond between Clark and Lois. The most captivating aspects of the show are undoubtedly their shared moments, skillfully portrayed by Tulloch and Hoechlin, which beautifully illustrate their strong affection for each other.

Without a doubt, this year promises some intense moments as Clark’s close brush with death leaves Lois grappling alone. Fingers crossed that his recovery results in their reunion, and the series finale will depict them, armed with their unbreakable bond and a romantic connection shining brightly, ready to tackle whatever challenges come their way.

An Arrowverse Farewell

The finale of “Superman & Lois” marks the conclusion of the Arrowverse as well. Over the past 12 years, we’ve been on an incredible journey with numerous outstanding shows that deserve a fitting send-off. Although this universe is distinct from others in the Arrowverse, there are still many connections that should be acknowledged. The producers should understand that fans will want more than just a goodbye to “Superman & Lois”; they’ll also long for a heartfelt farewell to the entire Arrowverse.

It might be too ambitious to expect appearances by Oliver Queen, Barry Allen, or others. However, a subtle nod or recognition that this marks the end of an era is necessary, given the remarkable success of this TV franchise. While it may not be the grand finale the Arrowverse calls for, a heartfelt farewell would undeniably please fans.

Just nail the landing

Wrapping up a series can be challenging, especially when there are only ten episodes left. Ultimately, what fans desire is a fitting farewell for this excellent production. Avoid overdoing the grandeur, resist packing in as much plot as if it were twenty episodes – instead, provide an ending that pays tribute to both the show and its characters.

It’s unfortunate to think that a highly-acclaimed series like “Superman & Lois” might struggle at its conclusion, adding it to the list of once-great shows that didn’t end well. However, since this is their last chance to shape the story, I hope the writers deliver an outstanding final season as good as the first three, wrapping up “Superman & Lois” in a fitting and satisfying manner.

Superman & Lois season 4 premieres Thursday, October 17 at 8/7c on the CW.
