As someone who has spent years immersed in the world of cinema, I must say that the upcoming film “Emilia Perez” sounds absolutely captivating. The fact that Selena Gomez is involved piques my interest, as I’ve always admired her versatility as an actress.

The first trailer for the new movie Emilia Perez from Netflix was shared on Monday.

In a new role, Selena Gomez, aged 31, portrays the seductive character of Jessi, a wife involved with a cartel, in an intriguing Spanish-language musical production that also features elements of transgender themes.

Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña also appear in the riveting fast-paced clip.

The movie is a crime comedy film written and directed by French icon Jacques Audiard.

The story is inspired by Audiard’s opera script with the same title, which itself was somewhat based on Boris Razon’s 2018 book titled “Écoute.”

The movie can be seen in theaters on November 1 and will go to streamers on November 13.

Saldana plays one of the protagonists in the film named Rita Moro Castro,

The film is entirely in Spanish as it takes place in modernday Mexico.

According to IMDB the synopsis of the film is: ‘Lawyer Rita receives an unexpected offer.

In my fervent enthusiasm, I find myself caught up in a mission: to assist a notorious crime lord in leaving his criminal empire behind and vanishing for good. To do so, I must transform myself into the very essence of his cherished dreams – a woman who captivates him completely.

In this movie, the lead role is played by Gascon, who takes on two distinct characters: initially as Juan ‘Small Hands’ Del Monte, a male cartel leader, and later transforms into Emilia Perez, a female character.

In the movie, character Rita helps the fugitive cartel head, Emilia, undergo a gender confirmation surgery as a means of avoiding capture by law enforcement while also validating her identity.

Back in May, the stars of the film attended the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

After receiving a remarkable nine-minute standing ovation, it was there that Gomez dried her tears.

The Love You Like A Love Song singer portrays the cartel leader’s unsuspecting wife in the movie.

It was revealed that the A-lister had signed on to star in Emilia Perez in January 2023.

The star-studded cast features Edgar Ramirez.

Initially, it was planned that filming for this feature would occur in 2022; however, delays of several months were encountered because of complications with scheduling.

Earlier this year, Audiard shared with Variety that Emilia Perez was not originally conceived by him as a full-length movie.

Originally, the director envisioned the project as a four-act opera script, but eventually decided on a different approach.

‘It was the first time that an idea [for a film] came to me under this shape,’ he added.

In a subsequent statement, the director explained that he primarily filmed the movie within studios because working on location provided him with greater creative liberty for the musical and dance sequences.

He expressed that choosing to shoot his project in a studio felt similar to going back to a fundamental instinct.
