More Star Trek: The Original Series characters confirmed for Strange New Worlds

As a long-time Trekkie with memories of the original series etched deeply into my neurons, I must say that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been nothing short of a triumphant return to form for the franchise. The show’s commitment to traditional Trek storytelling and its skillful weaving of past and present narratives is simply captivating.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds effectively revitalizes the franchise by returning to classic Star Trek narrative styles. The show introduces characters from previous installments, bridging the storyline between Discovery and the Original Series. This revival has left many fans delighted, appreciating its balanced blend of optimism and dramatic tension.

“It has truly become one of the finest shows in Star Trek, thanks to its unique tone, writing style, and its knack for delving into the franchise’s past while crafting a fresh narrative. While it does draw inspiration from the original series, it openly acknowledges this influence. The show is well aware that it’s a prequel series, a direct continuation of the original one.”

It’s no wonder they find themselves interconnected with their past or future personas. Characters from the original series like the Kirk brothers, Dr. M’Banga, Nurse Chapel, Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, Uhura, Spock, and Captain Pike have either taken the spotlight or made occasional appearances.

Additionally, it’s important to note that they aren’t alone in this, as we discovered recently through Variety. Last month, it was announced that additional characters from the Original Series will be introduced in Strange New Worlds, as Henry Alonso Myers disclosed (as reported by Inverse).

“These characters are not the people that they will become when we get to The Original Series. They are still younger. They are going through things. They have a lot of life and lessons to go through. They have some growth to do so you don’t see them exactly the way that you would see them later on.”

From the episode “What Little Girls Are Made Of,” it has been confirmed that Roger Korby will make an appearance in the show. It’s also speculated that other characters might join him, such as Hikaru Sulu, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, or perhaps even both. However, I believe only one of these two may appear. Instead, it seems more probable that we’ll see a non-Starfleet rendition of Pavel Chekov, and possibly an ex-villain from the past.

Maybe a certain beloved Romulan could pop up at the end of season three to set up season four.
