Star Trek: Lower Decks promise major final episode

As a die-hard Trekkie with decades of Starfleet chronicles under my belt, I must say that the impending finale of Lower Decks has left me both nostalgic and excited. Having grown up watching TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise, it’s a delight to see this animated series breathe new life into the universe we all love.

The team aboard the USS Cerritos is all set to wrap up their day’s work. Star Trek: Lower Decks, terminated by Paramount+, will conclude its five-season journey this year with its fifth and final season premiering on October 24, 2024. As the fall of 2024 approaches, Lower Decks will wrap up the series. Some cast members have already ventured into new projects, like Tawny Newsome starting a fresh Star Trek comedy show, but series creator Mike McMahon remains behind.

As of now, he hasn’t done so, but with the press tour ongoing for the last season, and his recent chat with Collider (as reported by TrekMovie), it seems he hasn’t had a chance to sit down and share detailed insights about the final season yet. However, during that conversation, he gave fans a sneak peek into what they can anticipate from the upcoming season.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled at the prospect that the grand finale of our beloved show might serve as an epic ode to the entire Star Trek universe. This intriguing notion isn’t dismissed by McMahon, hinting at the possibility instead.

“We kept adding and adding and adding to the finale because nothing was ever satisfying enough, and there weren’t enough goodbyes to tell in a funny way. Ultimately, what we ended up with was a gigantic episode that’s really fun.”

As anticipation builds towards the final episode, fans may find themselves arguing about which characters from the past might make a comeback. However, it’s not typical of McMahon to bring back big names like William Shatner, Scott Bakula, or Patrick Stewart. Instead, we might see an obscure character reappear, played once more by the original actor who portrayed them three decades ago but has since left showbiz for a career in dentistry. Or perhaps something equally unexpected will happen.

Fortunately, Lower Decks enthusiasts can look forward to saying their farewells on Paramount+, as the final season unfolds episode by episode. This gradual send-off will generate excitement and discussions among fans as the series embarks on its journey into the unknown.
