Skeleton Crew: Jude Law discusses his love of Star Wars and who shot first
As a child of the ’70s and ’80s, I can confidently say that my love for movies was born and nurtured under the watchful gaze of the Star Wars universe. Jude Law’s sentiments about Star Wars resonate deeply with me, as I too can barely remember a life before the galaxy far, far away. The release of each new film felt like a monumental event that transcended mere entertainment and became an integral part of our collective consciousness.
Actor Jude Law has been nominated for two Academy Awards and is renowned for iconic roles like Albus Dumbledore, Captain Hook, and Dr. Watson. He’s set to star prominently in the upcoming movie “Skeleton Crew.” In an exclusive chat with People magazine, he discussed how Star Wars has fueled his passion for cinema.
“Joyful”
As reported by People following the latest D23 Expo, Law shared how the franchise significantly influenced his upbringing, detailing its impact on him during his childhood.
I think it’s fair to say I can’t really remember life before Star Wars. I mean Star Wars and the phenomenon of that first film was all encompassing for children of that age… Then another came out and sort of just expanded the world even more… So, it had a profound and very impactful effect on my childhood in a wonderful, wonderful way.
At the time when the initial movie was unveiled, he was around nine or ten years old. Regarding the series “Skeleton Crew”, he expressed that it was captivating because the main characters were similar in age to him. In other words, the four principal actors portrayed children we had all seen for the first time navigating this world. He also mentioned that the word that immediately comes to mind when describing the series is “joyful”. Another key aspect of the show is that it revolves around teamwork and conquering fears, possibly even challenging one’s self-perception or acknowledging personal weaknesses in order to prevail.
Who shot first?
As a passionate Star Wars fan myself, I recently shared my thoughts with Entertainment Weekly about one of my firmly held convictions regarding the iconic franchise – Han Solo did indeed shoot first in that fateful Cantina scene. In the intriguing world of ‘Skeleton Crew’, my character may be shrouded in mystery, but when it comes to this Star Wars debate, I stand firm on my stance.
In the original “Star Wars” movie titled “A New Hope,” Han Solo prevented a bounty hunter from capturing him by firing a shot in the well-known cantina. During the 1990s special editions, it was altered to depict both characters exchanging gunfire, with Han’s bullet striking its target. When questioned about this change, Law responded emphatically:
I have no qualms…Han shot [Greedo] in cold blood…And that was the way it was always meant to be. Han all the way. And that’s why we love him.
We look forward to Star Wars: Skeleton Crew arriving on Disney+ on December 3.
