Ben Affleck’s best friend Matt Damon talks their ‘special’ 43 year bond… but fails to address Ben’s crumbling Jennifer Lopez marriage

Matt Damon feels ‘really lucky’ to still be making films with the Affleck brothers.
In the comedy heist movie “The Instigators,” the 53-year-old actor, who is thankful for the preservation of their old friendship, stars alongside Casey Affleck. Notably, this film was produced by Ben Affleck.
At the New York premiere on Wednesday, Matt shared with The Hollywood Reporter his feelings about their 43-year-old friendship: “It’s simply the delight of engaging in our passions side by side. There’s nothing quite like that level of camaraderie and shared love for what we do.”
I’m incredibly fortunate to continue crafting films at such a high caliber, collaborating with the exceptional individuals I have the pleasure of working alongside.
However, when these individuals are those who I’ve held as my most treasured friends for more than four decades, it makes the situation uniquely meaningful.
However, instead of discussing Ben’s current mental situation given his ongoing marital issues with Jennifer Lopez, Damon remained silent on the topic. For the past two months, Ben hasn’t been seen with Jennifer, as she’s been residing in New York.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find solace in immersing myself in environments that hold personal significance, and for me, that place is none other than the charming city of Boston – a city where I, along with the Affleck siblings, were raised. Filming the Apple TV+ project here has been a nostalgic journey, revisiting familiar landscapes and memories that have shaped who we are today.
The Oppenheimer actor said: ‘It feels really familiar to go home.
‘The sensibility there, the sense of humour is something that just comes naturally to us.
‘And it’s just a really comfortable place, it feels like going home every time.’
Damon also told People that Ben and Casey are real pros.
He clarifies that they are consistently exceptional, making them reliable and impressive teammates throughout the process. To add, there are typically no unexpected challenges or issues when working with them.
During their collaboration, the team members often engage in constructive debates about ideas, Damon observes. He adds that these disagreements are beneficial for them as they have developed a strong understanding of each other, so their emotions and egos typically stay out of the picture.
‘So it’s a pretty healthy working relationship with both of them,’ he adds.
Additionally, Matt mentioned that his spouse, Lucy, played a role as a producer in the film. Given her excellent judgment in matters of taste, he feels confident in her decisions.
Doug Liman, who previously collaborated with Damon on The Bourne Identity more than two decades ago, now directs the film The Instigators. Over the years, Liman observed and reflected upon the transformation in Damon’s acting abilities.
He told the HR: ‘Even though 20 years had elapsed, it felt like it was yesterday that Matt and I were just starting to work together.
As an ardent fan, it’s mind-blowing to see how little has evolved, yet Matt and I remain dedicated to creating something fresh and true to our style, steering clear of the usual studio expectations. What truly astounds me is Apple’s unwavering support for our vision.
Liman added, “During the production of The Instigators, there were instances where I’d turn to Matt and exclaim, ‘Wow, he has grown so much!’ This was in reference to his assistance in helping me excel as a director and his insight into how he could contribute as an actor to my work.”
