Spoilers for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man follow.
Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has revealed that a significant character from the original series will reappear in the planned sequel. The continuation of the crime drama, announced last October, will follow a new generation of the Shelby family.
The new series takes place in Birmingham in 1953 and continues the story after the Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man. That film, set during World War II, features Barry Keoghan as Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s son.
Following extensive bombing during World War II, the city of Birmingham is being rebuilt with modern concrete and steel, striving for a brighter future.

The world of Peaky Blinders, created by Steven Knight, is entering a new phase. The fight to control Birmingham’s ambitious rebuilding efforts is becoming increasingly violent and intense. The city offers incredible opportunities, but also immense danger, and the Shelby family is at the center of it all.
What to Read Next
Regarding the new series, coming to both BBC and Netflix, creator Knight has confirmed that Barry Keoghan’s character, Duke, will be included.
Asked by Variety if we will be seeing more of Duke in the spin-off, Knight said: “Yes, we are.”
We still don’t know who will be in the new series, as Knight has kept the casting a secret.
Asked if Keoghan would be reprising the role of Duke, Knight replied: “I can’t comment.”
In the same interview, Knight revealed it took him some time to decide how Tommy Shelby would die, eventually landing on the idea of Duke being the one to kill him.

When asked how the character Tommy Shelby would meet his end, Knight explained he hadn’t figured it out yet. He struggled with the idea because Tommy himself had stated in the show that only he could kill himself, but Knight didn’t want that to be the solution. Eventually, though, the answer became obvious.
Knight said he made the decision for Duke to kill Tommy roughly a minute before actually writing the scene.
He explained that’s how things would unfold, emphasizing the themes of inheritance and lasting impact. He noted that Tommy Shelby has always had a unique perspective on life and death.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is now available to watch on Netflix.
