As a die-hard fan who has grown up with Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler’s magical tales, the news of Hannah Waddingham voicing Tiddler’s narrator is nothing short of a dream come true! Having binge-watched Ted Lasso and reminiscing about Rebecca Welton’s witty comebacks, it’s heartwarming to see this talented actress diving into the world of animation.
As a devoted admirer, I’m well-known for my captivating portrayal of Rebecca Welton, the charismatic football-club owner, in the hilarious Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso.
In contrast, the well-known actress, who is 50 years old, will be portraying a character quite different from her iconic one in an upcoming BBC animated movie. This film also features Rob Brydon, known for his roles in Gavin and Stacey.
The small fish character named Tiddler will make its debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas, narrating an enchanting tale about a fish with a vibrant imagination.
In this half-hour animated production, an exceptional ensemble of voice actors will take center stage. The storyteller role is entrusted to Hannah, while Lolly Adefope from the series Ghosts portrays Miss Skate, and Jayde Adams assumes the character of Plaice.

Tiddler’s cast includes young talents, Reuben Kirby playing the lead character, and Theo Fraser stepping into the role of Johnny Dory.
The magical story comes from the UK’s number one picture book creators Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler and is being produced by the BBC and Magic Light Pictures.
Each day, Tiddler shares a unique tale with both his teacher and his companion, Johnny Dory, as the reason for his tardiness at school.
His tales range from galloping on sea horses and circling a sunken vessel, to getting ensnared by an octopus.
His tales are so captivating that news about them seems to spread like ripples across a body of water. This means that when Tiddler becomes lost, he might use these stories as guides to help him navigate back home.
In my perspective, this movie unfolds as an enchanting submarine journey, highlighting the potency of creativity and self-assurance, along with the art of being fulfilled as a tiny fish amidst the vastness of the ocean.
