As a long-time admirer of the captivating and resilient Shannen Doherty, I was deeply saddened by the news of her passing. Having followed her career since her days on Beverly Hills, 90210, I was struck by her extraordinary talent and unyielding spirit.

Tori Spelling is openly discussing the surprising instance when she found out that her friend and co-star from Beverly Hills, 90210, Shannen Doherty, had passed away at the age of 53.

On her podcast, titled “Spellbound,” 51 shared poignant thoughts about a sorrowful occasion, an episode that was released this past Sunday. This particular broadcast came approximately two weeks after the passing of Doherty on July 13, who lost her life following a prolonged struggle with breast cancer.

On a peaceful Sunday afternoon of July 14th, Spelling, famously known for portraying Donna Martin in the classic Fox series, was dozing off with her children. Suddenly, her phone wouldn’t stop vibrating, breaking the tranquility and signaling some unfortunate news.

The L.A. resident commented, “It repeatedly rang,” meaning it was 7 a.m., and that’s when I recognized it instantly.

Instead of immediately checking social media upon hearing the news that someone significant had passed away, I chose to take a moment to absorb it first.

Spelling shared that she looked up Google and discovered that Shannen had unfortunately passed away on Saturday night, which came as a shock.

2015 saw the initial diagnosis of breast cancer for Doherty; however, it later went into remission. Regrettably, the cancer resurfaced in 2017 as stage four, eventually metastasizing to her brain in the previous year.

On Sundays, I laud Doherty for utilizing her podcast platform to disseminate knowledge about hope and awareness among her followers. I’m deeply thankful for having had the chance to know her.

As an ardent admirer, let me share my perspective: For anyone worldwide grappling with struggles – be it cancer, a disease, or simply a difficult time – they found solace and strength in her. In the instances when they felt utterly drained, they sought inspiration from her to persevere. Remarkably, I had the privilege of witnessing this firsthand throughout her life, and it was nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful.

She was fifteen years old when she initially met Doherty during the filming of the pilot for the well-known TV series, which was overseen by her late father, Aaron Spelling.

In my opinion, Shannen and Brian Austin Green (Austin Greene) were the first individuals I encountered on set, and they were incredibly warm and inviting. According to Spelling, Shannen quickly welcomed me in and even gave me a big hug. She then guided me around, leading me to the makeup trailer.

According to Spelling, her relationship with Doherty went through ups and downs, experiencing some ‘difficult periods’ which she referred to as ‘lost years.’ However, they managed to clear up past ‘miscommunications’ and have been enjoying a peaceful relationship in more recent times.

In the end, we found ourselves with an opportunity to return and declare, “All else is irrelevant.” What truly counts is the strong bond of friendship we shared, a bond that we managed to rekindle.

Doherty was a ‘guiding light’ in her life, leaving an indelible impact on her fans and the public through her remarkable performances and the bravery she demonstrated during her health struggles.

According to Spelling, she’ll continue to exist through her work, those who cherished her, and the ideals she championed.

Following the passing of Doherty, Spelling shared a selfie on Instagram Stories alongside the caption: “At a loss for words at the moment… but we understood each other, and that’s what truly counts.”

On July 15, Spelling made a more detailed announcement following Doherty’s passing, using the platform for this statement.

“If I shared with Shan my struggle to condense 36 years of relationship into social media posts, she might express something like, ‘Let them figure it out on their own.’ As for me, I’m grappling with the sudden extinguishing of a flame that burned too briefly, and finding the right words is proving challenging.”

She indicated that they had grown extremely close, serving as each other’s confidants, wingwomen, sources of support during challenging relationships, temporary flatmates at times, travel companions, and far more than just friends.

Spelling shared that Doherty was consistently supportive of her, standing by her side, even when she lacked confidence in herself. He held faith in her abilities when she struggled to believe in them herself.

As someone who has navigated the complexities of maintaining friendships throughout my life, I can attest to the profound impact childhood friendships have on shaping our adult selves. Rarely do we get a second chance to mend these relationships that molded us so deeply. However, when such an opportunity arises, it is nothing short of a blessing, allowing us to reconnect with a piece of our past and potentially enrich our present and future.

Actor Doherty passed away over five years following the demise of Luke Perry, famously known for his role in Beverly Hills, 90210, at the age of 52. His death occurred in March of 2019 due to a severe stroke.

Following Perry’s passing in 2019, I found myself reconnecting with my beloved ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ co-stars – Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, Gabrielle Carteris, and Ian Ziering. Together, we embarked on a unique journey for the series BH90210, where we portrayed fictionalized versions of ourselves, revisiting our iconic roles from the past.

Leslie Sloane, publicist for Shannen Doherty, shared the sad news on July 14th that actress Shannen Doherty has passed away. After a long and brave fight against cancer which spanned many years, she lost her battle the previous day, on July 13th.

‘With her family members and beloved pet, Bowie, by her side, the deeply caring daughter, sibling, aunt, and companion was enveloped in love. At present, the family kindly requests space to mourn privately.’
