Indie band lead singer looks worlds away from his 90s heyday – can YOU recognise who it is?

The lead singer of an indie band looked much different from his popular days in the 1990s in a photo taken on stage Sunday.

Fans who remember the band from the 90s might not recognize their singer now – he’s sporting grey, unruly hair, glasses, and a blue sweatshirt.

The band performed for an enthusiastic audience at the Estereo Picnic Festival in Bogota, Colombia.

This Scottish rock band became popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, releasing several successful singles like ‘Sing,’ ‘Side,’ ‘Flowers In The Window,’ and ‘Driftwood’.

So can you guess who it is yet? 

That’s right, it’s Fran Healy from the band Travis.  

The band has kept making music and selling albums since their most popular years, but they haven’t reached the same level of success they had in the late 1990s.

It’s been a tough time for Fran in recent years. 

He went through a difficult time, experiencing both a divorce and the loss of a close friend to cancer. To make matters worse, his band also fired their manager, who had worked with them for over twenty years.

Fran told the BBC in 2024: ‘It was like being in a storm and you think you might sink.

Things eventually get better, because that’s just how life works, and this album is the result of that journey. It’s the most personal record we’ve made because it’s filled with everything we’ve been through.

‘It’s like whisky. I’ve been soaked in all this mad stuff and I think it shows.’

The song “Alive” is a tribute to Ringan Ledwidge, a friend who directed the music videos for the band’s popular songs “Turn” and “Coming Around.”

He passed away from cancer in 2021 aged 50.

Fran and Nora divorced because their romantic relationship changed after they became parents. He describes Nora as his closest friend and explains that their connection shifted into a different kind of partnership.

Their son, Clay, is studying art in New York and recently formed his own band.

The team decided to fire their manager after 25 years, believing he had lost his passion for supporting them.

Fran described it as a really empowering moment, explaining that it allowed him to regain control of his band.
