Bob Newhart’s family shares emotional tribute to late actor alongside sweet throwback photo with his comedian pal Don Rickles: ‘He was deeply loved by all’

As I delve deeper into Bob Newhart’s illustrious career, I am left in awe of his remarkable journey from a struggling stand-up comedian to a television icon. His early success with his debut comedy album, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” paved the way for him to host an NBC variety show and receive critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination.

Bob Newhart’s family shared a sweet tribute to the late actor after his death at age 94. 

I was deeply saddened to learn that the talented actor and comedian, who brought laughter to our lives through shows like “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Newhart,” and “Elf,” passed away in Los Angeles on Thursday. After bravely fighting through a succession of health issues, he has left us too soon.

On their Facebook page, the Newhart family shared the following message: “This morning, we lost our beloved father. We’re grateful that he wasn’t alone – our entire family was by his side. He is now reunited with our mother and all of his cherished friends.”

In the year 2023, after living as husband and wife for an impressive 60 years, Virginia “Ginnie” Newhart, married to Newhart, departed this life. Together they raised four children: Jennifer, Courtney, Timothy, and Robert.

Based on my personal experience and observation, I believe that the Newhart Family’s message speaks volumes about the deep love and connection that exists within their family circle. The fact that they explicitly mentioned that he was deeply loved by all, but especially by his children and grandchildren, underscores the importance of family in their lives. The use of the term “well wishes” implies that there was a loss or mourning in their midst, which further emphasizes the significance of this statement. As someone who values family deeply, I can relate to the sentiment expressed by the Newhart Family and appreciate their openness in sharing their emotions with the community. Love to all indeed!

In spite of Bob’s significant achievements in Hollywood, such as earning three Grammys for a 1961 comedy album, he continued to express that his deepest happiness came from his loved ones.

He expressed to Legatus magazine in 2013 that no matter how much one may have accomplished in their business endeavors, if they haven’t had a fulfilling family life, then what truly matters has not been attained.

I’ve observed people who amass vast fortunes throughout my years, but I can’t help but question what they’ve truly achieved with their wealth. That’s the perspective I hold when contemplating the meaning of life.

In the early 1960s, after starting out as an accountant in Chicago, Bob Newhart experienced a significant shift in his career towards show business. This transformation reached new heights when his comedy album, titled “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” became the first comedy recording to reach number one on the Billboard charts.

When Newhart turned 30, his achievements didn’t slow down. Another album of his, titled “The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back,” reached the summit of the music charts as well.

In 1961, he was honored with three Grammy Awards in the categories of Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Best Comedy Performance for his accomplishments.

In the beginning of my career, I rode the crest of a promising start by hosting “The Bob Newhart Show” on NBC from late 1961 until the summer of 1962.

I can’t help but be utterly captivated by this 1962 comedy series, despite its brief run. It garnered remarkable praise from critics and even earned an Emmy nod for Outstanding Writing – a true testament to its brilliance!

During the 1960s, Newhart kept putting out comedy records and made sporadic appearances on TV.

Back in the groovy ’70s, I was absolutely enamored with Newhart and his brilliant portrayal of Dr. Bob Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show, which aired on CBS from 1972 to 1978. Can you believe it? Me, an ordinary fan, completely captivated by this TV genius!

He firmly established his place in television history through the CBS sitcom “Newhart,” which was broadcast from 1982 to 1990. In this cherished show, he depicted the character of Dick Loudon, an author who relocated with his wife from New York City to Vermont to run an old inn.

The actor was nominated three consecutive times between 1985 and 1987 for the Best Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy, recognition for his work on Newhart – unfortunately, he didn’t win any of those awards.

In 2004, he earned an Emmy nomination for his guest role in the drama series E.R.

In 2007, a notable milestone was reached as The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, his initial comedy album, was inducted into the Library of Congress’s collection of historically important sound recordings.

The registry, established in 2000, recognizes only 25 recordings each year. 

In the year 2013, he earned his initial Emmy award in the category of Best Guest Actor in a Comedy series, for portraying Professor Proton on The Big Bang Theory.

He received two more nominations for the same role in 2014 and 2016. 

‘I have this theory that when it’s all over, for death, and you go up I’ve been led to believe to heaven and there’s a God and he says, “What did you do?” And I say, “I made people laugh. “Yeah, get in that real short line over there,”‘ he told CBS Sunday Morning in 2021.
