Original Avengers cast reunite for special new project

As a passionate gamer and avid Marvel fan, I’m absolutely thrilled to see this unique and culturally significant project come to life. The idea of the original Avengers assembling to dub the iconic film in the Lakota language is not only a testament to their dedication but also an essential step towards preserving and revitalizing a once-banned language.

The original Avengers have come together for a unique endeavor paying tribute to the Native American Lakota language.

In a YouTube video titled “Assembling the Lakota Avengers“, Marvel Studios brought back Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Chris Evans (Captain America) to record The Avengers in the previously prohibited Lakota language.

I spearheaded the initiative, leading a team of 62 Native American speakers of the Lakota-Dakota language and the Avengers crew, in re-recording the dialogues for the original blockbuster under Ruffalo’s guidance. It was an arduous process that took over a year and a half to complete.

“The Lakota people and I were the source of this project, and they found joy in the prospect of creating a unique version of ‘The Avengers.’ They proposed an intriguing idea: let’s produce a Lakota-dubbed version of ‘The Avengers,'” shared Ruffalo.

He shared that efforts have been made to “reinvigorate the Lakota language” following a history where Native Americans were prohibited from using it.

Native Americans at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation are making an attempt to revive the usage of their native language, which has fallen out of common use.

In the video, Johansson, Evans, Ruffalo, and Downey Jr carefully record their parts using the Lakota language. They put great effort into correctly pronouncing their lines and delivering them naturally.

Ruffalo pondered, “Coordinating everyone and ensuring we were on the same wavelength proved to be quite a challenge. Yet, their enthusiasm was palpable. The intricacies of the language may have been intimidating at first, but once we all grasped it, the sense of accomplishment was immensely rewarding.”

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the Avengers universe, I’ve witnessed firsthand the commendable commitment of the stars to bring their characters to life. The Lakota community, esteemed contributors to the game, have shown great reverence towards the language, making it an integral part of our shared gaming experience.

I’m thrilled that “The Avengers” movie, freshly titled, is currently available for streaming on Disney+. One team member shared an intriguing perspective, expressing, “It’s incredible how our language no longer needs to be hidden with this project.”
