Hoskinson to Buterin: “Need a Constitution? Buenos Aires Awaits!”

In the twilight of this digital epoch, where the shadows of blockchain stretch long and thin, Charles Hoskinson, the architect of Cardano, has cast a stone into the still waters of Ethereum’s pond. Twelve years since the schism, the air hums with the irony of history repeating itself. The Ethereum Foundation, in its quest for autonomy, has birthed a mandate-a document aspiring to the grandeur of a constitution. Yet, Hoskinson, with a smirk as wide as the Pampas, declares it a mere echo of what Cardano has already etched into the annals of Buenos Aires.

“A mandate,” he muses, “or a constitution, if you will. We could introduce them to UBA, should they wish to convene…” The University of Buenos Aires, his stalwart ally, stands as a beacon of governance, its halls echoing with the whispers of Cardano’s constitutional triumph. Ethereum, it seems, is but a latecomer to this grand ballet of on-chain governance.

The Tango of Governance: Cardano Leads, Ethereum Follows

On March 13, 2026, the Ethereum Foundation unveiled its mandate-a trinity of subsidiarity, protection of values, and temporality. The latter, a promise that the Foundation shall fade into the ether, leaving the ecosystem to its own devices. Yet, Hoskinson’s laughter rings out, a sardonic melody. “Temporality,” he scoffs, “is but a word until it is lived. And Cardano has lived it, in the halls of UBA, where the constitution is not a promise but a reality.”

In December 2024, while Ethereum was still weaving its mandate, Cardano had already convened a global convention at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires. There, amidst the ivory towers and the scent of old books, the constitution of Cardano was born. A constitutional committee, vested with the power to veto, stands as the guardian of its law. Ethereum’s mandate, in contrast, relies on the fragile threads of moral authority and the whims of developers.

“Mandate” or Constitution, if you will. We could introduce them to UBA if they want to have a convention….

Hoskinson’s irony is as sharp as a blade. “If Ethereum seeks maturity,” he quips, “let them come to Buenos Aires. Let them kneel at the altar of UBA and seek the blessing of our constitution.” The challenge is thrown, the gauntlet lies at Ethereum’s feet. Will Buterin accept, or will he let the winds of history carry Hoskinson’s laughter into the void?
