Everyone agrees that MobLand is a hit, but if you’re looking for something to watch while you wait for season two, there are other great crime shows available. When it premiered in 2025, MobLand quickly became one of Paramount+’s most popular shows, largely because of Tom Hardy’s outstanding portrayal of Harry Da Souza, a problem-solver for the powerful and intimidating Harrigan crime family in London.
With conflict escalating between the Harrigan and Stevenson families, Harry is trying to prevent an all-out war. However, the people he works for have hidden motives that put Harry and his entire team in danger. While fans wait for season 2 of MobLand, which promises to expand on the show’s compelling story, here are some other options to enjoy in the meantime.
Mr Inbetween
2018-2021
Inspired by Scott Ryan’s 2005 film The Magician, Mr Inbetween centers around Raymond “Ray” Shoesmith, a highly skilled hitman living in Sydney, Australia. Ray leads a double life: he’s a dedicated father and cares for his brother, but also works as a contract killer, known as The Magician, carrying out jobs for various criminals while keeping his personal and professional lives separate.
Mr Inbetween is a truly outstanding Australian crime drama, especially considering it was the brainchild of Scott Ryan – he created, wrote, and starred in it. The show features plenty of action, all of which is skillfully done, and it also explores the complex emotions of its main character, Ray, and his difficult relationships, adding a powerful layer to the story.
Love/Hate
2010-2014
If you’re looking for a fantastic but often overlooked European crime drama, Love/Hate is a great choice. This Irish series initially centered around John Boy, a powerful crime boss, and his crew, showcasing the dangerous criminal world of Dublin. But as the show went on, it became more focused on the mental and emotional consequences of gang violence and organized crime.
Okay, let me tell you about Love/Hate. This show has already become something of a legend back in Ireland, and honestly, even after almost 16 years, it still packs a punch. What really struck me was the cast – everyone delivers a truly memorable performance. Plus, the way it’s filmed keeps you constantly guessing, and the stories themselves, while often pretty dark, really drive home just how brutal life in Dublin’s criminal underworld can be. It’s a tough watch at times, but a really effective one.
Peaky Blinders
2013-2022

The critically acclaimed series Peaky Blinders needs little introduction. Led by Cillian Murphy as the compelling Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, this historical drama chronicles the adventures of the Peaky Blinders gang in the early 1900s, extending into the 1930s. Throughout its six seasons, Tommy Shelby is a complex character, shifting between being a hero and a villain, and never fully settling on a clear sense of right and wrong.
The show cleverly includes modern music, like Radiohead songs, but these touches never break the spell of its incredibly detailed depiction of post-World War I Birmingham, England. With a fantastic cast supporting the already excellent writing, Peaky Blinders is a unique and memorable crime drama.
Boardwalk Empire
2010-2014
Like Peaky Blinders, Boardwalk Empire takes place during the Prohibition era of the 1920s. The show gives Steve Buscemi a chance to showcase his serious acting skills as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, the most influential person in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Nucky uses his job as Atlantic County Treasurer to gain political power and also becomes heavily involved in the illegal alcohol trade.
As a huge fan of good TV, I still think about Boardwalk Empire all the time – it really was one of HBO’s best shows, and I’m surprised it doesn’t get talked about more. What I loved was how it blended real American history into the story so smoothly, without ever feeling like a history lesson. And honestly, looking back at Steve Buscemi’s career, I think his performance in Boardwalk Empire was truly his best work – it was just phenomenal, even years after the show ended in 2014.
The Penguin
2024
Crime shows often rely on sad and difficult events. Whether they’re set in the past during a dark time or focus on current struggles, these stories can be tough to watch. However, The Penguin avoids this by being set in the fantastical world of Gotham City.
Considered one of the decade’s best limited series, The Penguin follows Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) as he attempts to fill the shoes of his deceased crime boss. The situation gets even more complicated with the return of Sofia Gigante (Cristin Milioti), a formidable and dangerous woman vying for control. Even if you’re not familiar with comic books or DC, this show is a gripping and thrilling crime drama with a unique edge.
Banshee
2013-2016
Many crime dramas draw a clear line between criminals and the police, but Banshee does something different. The story follows a recently released convict who searches for his old partner and former lover, hoping to reclaim the diamonds that led to his imprisonment.
Let me tell you, Banshee really grabbed me. The premise is wild: an ex-con arrives in this small town and becomes the sheriff, using a stolen identity. But just when he thinks he can start a new life, his old boss shows up, hungry for payback. Beyond the incredible performance by Antony Starr, what I loved most is how consistently clever the show is. Each season delivers a genuinely gripping mystery, and it knows exactly how to keep you hooked.
Tulsa King
2022-Present
After serving 25 years in prison, notorious New York mobster Dwight Manfredi, nicknamed “The General” (Sylvester Stallone), is surprisingly transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, he starts over, assembling a new crew while adjusting to a different way of life and unexpectedly developing a connection with an ATF agent in town.
As Tulsa King heads into its fourth season, Dwight and his crew face bigger challenges than ever. But what really makes the show stand out is its humor. It’s full of danger and suspense, but it also knows when to lighten the mood and give viewers a break.
Kin
2021-2023
Truly great crime dramas are rare, but the series Kin is definitely one of them. Set in Ireland, it centers on the violent conflict between two powerful gangs: the Kinsellas and the Cunninghams. After a shocking death rocks the Kinsella family, they’re forced to choose between getting revenge and trying to make peace with their dangerous enemy, Eamon Cunningham (played by Ciarán Hinds).
I was totally blown away by the acting in Kin – Charlie Cox and Clare Dunne, especially, were incredible as Michael and Amanda Kinsella. It wasn’t just another action show, it felt like a real celebration of the craft itself. It’s a shame it only lasted two seasons, even though it broke records, but I have a feeling we’ll be talking about Kin for a long time to come.
Taboo
2017
Before his popular role in MobLand, Tom Hardy gave a standout performance in Taboo. This historical crime drama follows James Keziah Delaney, played by Hardy, as he comes back to London in 1814 after his father dies. Over eight captivating episodes, Delaney skillfully avoids being killed by enemies including the United States, the East India Company, and even the British monarchy.
Though Delaney isn’t quite like Harry Da Souza, the show Taboo explores similar ideas to MobLand, but set in a different era. While nothing will completely replicate MobLand, other excellent crime dramas can offer a fresh experience while we wait for season two.
