Disney+ surprised and delighted fans with a new special episode of The Muppet Show featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Released on February 4, 2026, the episode has received perfect scores from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and viewers are hoping it leads to more Muppet content from Disney.
Past seasons of The Muppet Show welcomed famous guests such as Tim Curry, Steve Martin, and Madeleine Kahn. More recent Muppet projects have featured stars like Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert!
People all have their own ideas about who would be a great musical guest and host. Here are seven top choices who haven’t appeared on The Muppets or Sesame Street before.
7. Colman Domingo

Colman Domingo is a wonderfully talented performer – an actor, singer, and dancer – and seems ideally suited for a classic pairing, like a duet with the Muppet Rowlf the Dog. Before becoming known for his dramatic roles, Domingo honed his skills on Broadway, notably playing the charismatic Billy Flynn in the 2014 revival of Chicago.
Many fans will recognize him as Eddie, the sad dragonfly from one of the most memorable episodes of BoJack Horseman, “The Old Sugarman Place” (season 4, episode 2). He’s known for beautifully singing a duet with Jane Krakowski in that episode, which is a standout moment from the series.
Okay, let me tell you about this music video. Recently, I watched Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Tears,’ and honestly, it was a delightfully campy experience. But the real standout for me was Dominic Fike. He absolutely owned the visuals, strutting around in heels and satin, and I couldn’t help but get major Rocky Horror Picture Show vibes – specifically, Dr. Frank N Furter. He really brought that same energy and theatrical flair to the screen, and it was fantastic.
As a huge fan of musical theater, I honestly can’t think of anyone better than Colman Domingo to have on a show about it. The guy can sing, he can dance, and seriously, he’s got charisma for days – he could probably win over anyone! He’s just a total star.
6. Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh has become a global icon, moving beyond being known as a favorite in just Malaysia or America. The popular action and sci-fi star is incredibly prolific, having appeared in major franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe – it seems she loves taking on big projects!
What truly sets Yeoh apart is her willingness to take on quirky and unexpected roles. She gained widespread acclaim for her performance in the wildly creative film Everything Everywhere All At Once, which explores themes of family, dreams, and self-discovery. The movie was a huge success at the Oscars, winning seven awards out of eleven nominations, including the Best Actress award for Yeoh. The film features incredibly imaginative scenes, like Yeoh playing a character with hot dog fingers and assisting a raccoon puppet named Racacoony while cooking.
Her funny personality, especially creating the popular “wicked witch!” sound on TikTok, makes her a perfect fit for The Muppets. She’d be great practicing martial arts with Miss Piggy or assisting Gonzo with his daring stunts.
5. Sam Rockwell
Sam Rockwell seems perfectly suited to appear with The Muppets – you might even think he’s been on the show before! It’s surprising he hasn’t, and that’s something that needs to be remedied.
This isn’t the first time Rockwell has acted alongside non-human characters. He famously played President Zaphod Beeblebrox in the 2005 movie The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which included characters in costume like the gloomy Marvin the Paranoid Android, the Vogons, and even a massive foot!
Two of Sam Rockwell’s first well-known roles, in 1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 1999’s Galaxy Quest, involved him acting playfully alongside characters created with visual effects. This experience makes him a natural fit to act opposite Rizzo, or perhaps another puppet like Sam the Eagle.
4. Jennifer Coolidge
Jennifer Coolidge is a much-loved actress who needs no introduction. She’s famous for her unique delivery – a dry, matter-of-fact style and instantly recognizable voice – and has become a favorite in films like Best in Show and Legally Blonde, as well as more recent projects like The Minecraft Movie and The White Lotus.
Jennifer Coolidge received widespread praise for her performance in The White Lotus, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for playing the eccentric and wealthy Tanya McQuoid. While many of her scenes became popular online, she’s perhaps best known for her memorable line, “These gays are trying to murder me.”
Many fans believe Jennifer Coolidge would be perfect to play Miss Piggy in a live-action adaptation. Although a recent Muppet Show special explored a rivalry between Kermit and Piggy based on their shared style, seeing Coolidge and Miss Piggy together would be incredibly entertaining.
3. Ayo Edibiri

Ayo Edibiri, known for her role in The Bear and her quirky comedy, often reminds people of the Muppets. Her recent film, Bottoms, was described as wildly unconventional by Variety. In a recent interview with Dazed, Edibiri revealed that if she could play any character, it would be Gonzo from The Great Muppet Caper.
The comedian is quickly becoming a major star, currently working with Chanel, voicing April O’Neil, and even being celebrated as an honorary Irishman. She’s clearly versatile and willing to take on any challenge, making her a perfect fit for The Muppets.
Ayo Edebiri is a uniquely versatile comedic actress. She can seamlessly switch between playing the grounded, sensible character, like Josie in Bottoms, and hilariously eccentric roles, such as the con artist in Theater Camp. She’s a truly gifted comedian who can go toe-to-toe with anyone, even the most unpredictable performers.
2. Matthew Mercer
Everyone’s been asking for a Critical Role campaign with Muppets, and honestly, that’s a great idea! But you know what might be even better? Seeing Matt Mercer himself as a guest on The Muppet Show. Now that would be amazing!
I’ve noticed the cast of our favorite D&D show loves to get into character – they’ll even wear their character’s outfits to events! And Matt Mercer is a really big deal beyond D&D, too. He’s a well-known voice actor, having worked on huge franchises like Dragon Age, Tomb Raider, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
It would be fun to see him appear with The Muppets, maybe in an episode centered around tabletop games. His ability to play the ‘straight man’ while dealing with a crazy group is similar to what Kermit the Frog does, making them a perfect fit together.
1. Vic Michaelis
Variety
Michaelis, the host of the Dropout show Very Important People, is used to interviewing notable guests. Many see his show, now in its third season, as excellent practice for the chaotic energy of working with the Muppets.
Michaelis frequently appears on Dropout, with roles in shows like Make Some Noise, Game Changer, and Very Important People. They’ve also started working in traditional television, recently appearing as Cheryl in an episode of the HBO series Ponies.
She’s incredibly funny, both when performing live and in movies and TV. Her talent is so strong, she could even surprise notoriously critical audiences like Statler and Waldorf. And that’s saying something, considering they’ve dealt with truly bizarre things – like a demonic baby!
It’s probably too early to ask for a full new season with more guests, but Disney does appear to be paying attention to what fans want. So, there’s reason to be optimistic that The Muppet Show could make a permanent comeback.
