5 Features We Desperately Need to Be Added to Elden Ring Nightreign

I’ve been absolutely captivated by the buzz surrounding my new favorite, “Elden Ring Nightreign.” Critics and fellow enthusiasts are raving about this game as an audacious reimagining of what made the original so extraordinary, molded to cater to roguelite elements. Each playthrough, ranging from approximately 40 minutes to an hour, invites me to traverse a richly detailed map teeming with tough-as-nails boss battles, concealed treasures, and formidable obstacles to conquer.

Unlike the methodical exploration typical of FromSoftware’s iconic series, “Elden Ring Nightreign” places the emphasis on rapid combat encounters to showcase the refined fighting systems the studio has honed over the years. Yet, despite its undeniable greatness, I believe “Elden Ring Nightreign” could use a little more fine-tuning to reach true masterpiece status.

As you explore Limveld and encounter the Nightlords, it becomes apparent that Elden Ring Nightreign lacks certain essential components to make things flow better. Thankfully, FromSoftware has hinted at continuing to develop the game after its release in order to enhance the gaming experience. There are specific features we eagerly anticipate being added through future updates, adjustments that could boost replayability and keep us coming back for more.

1) Allow Replayable Shifting Earth Events

In every playthrough of Elden Ring Nightreign, the story unfolds on a single map called Limveld, a vast territory that the game randomly populates with buildings and bosses. Remembering the layout of Limveld can take some time, but once you’ve got it down, the novelty wears off a bit. That’s where Shifting Earth events come into play. When one of these events is activated, Limveld’s landscape undergoes a significant change, introducing a demanding challenge area. Among the available events are a frigid mountain peak inhabited by frost dragons, a magma-filled crater, and even a decaying forest.

Experiencing the diverse biomes in Elden Ring Nightreign is an absolute blast! Yet, the circumstances leading to a Shifting Earth event are rather restrictive. These events may manifest after defeating a Nightlord, and following a few attempts, they disappear. This prolongs the wait for fresh Shifting Earth occurrences and makes their appearance too unpredictable. An ideal solution would be for players to have the ability to enable these events at will once they’ve unlocked a specific event. This way, each playthrough could offer a unique challenge as players choose which Shifting Earth event they’d like to encounter next.

2) Make Weapon Class and Spell Type More Visible in the UI

In Elden Ring Nightreign, only the Relics serve as consistent advancements. These are items you can equip before embarking on a journey, offering your character benefits. Each character can wield just three relics simultaneously, so selecting the right ones for particular obstacles is crucial. The relics’ effects may enhance stats or speed up stamina recovery, such as boosting the power of Dragon Cult Communion incantations, which are specialized in specific weapon classes or spell types.

The issue with this game is that it’s difficult to identify the category of a new weapon or spell during gameplay. Although you can press the inspect button on an item in your inventory to display its class above the artwork, this isn’t practical when you’re fleeing from the Ring. This means players must heavily rely on memorizing the extensive catalog of weapons and spells in Elden Ring Nightreign, which slows down decision-making about which equipment to focus on during each run. A simple solution would be to integrate this information into the user interface, allowing players to make quicker decisions when selecting their priorities.

3) Allow Players to Change Relics After Matchmaking

In the existing setup of the Relics system, players need to select the three Relics they prefer for each character prior to starting a new game. These chosen Relics will be your gear as you and your teammates are immediately transported into Limveld at the start of the run. However, certain Relics perform optimally when used in conjunction with specific team compositions, offering unique benefits tied to Character Skills and Ultimate Arts of team members. Additionally, some Relics are more effective against particular Nightlords, exploiting their vulnerabilities or safeguarding players from their assaults.

In online gameplay, you might find yourself lined up against several Nightlords simultaneously, a feature that expedites matchmaking but leaves uncertainty about which boss will appear next. Furthermore, without the ability to communicate with your teammates beforehand, you won’t know which characters they’ll choose until the game pairs you. Introducing an option to adjust Relics after pairing could help optimize your strategy based on the present team makeup and target.

4) Add an Option to End Run in Solo Mode

In the game Elden Ring Nightreign, which is from FromSoftware and follows the roguelite genre, players should be prepared for failure. On occasion, your initial day might not go as planned, causing you to miss out on rewards that could boost your character’s growth. Interestingly, there isn’t an option to quit a run in the menu, instead, you can only revert back to the game’s title screen. This means that any potential reward from simply dying is lost. This becomes particularly frustrating when trying to achieve Remembrance objectives, as these often require starting a new run and defeating a specific boss, which usually advances your character’s storyline.

In Elden Ring Nightreign, it’s crucial that players cannot leave their online teammates mid-game. However, for solo players, there should be no penalty for ending their game whenever they choose. This could actually expedite character story completion since you could accomplish a secondary goal and then abandon the run if needed. This feature would enhance solo play satisfaction as it allows a quick retry of a seemingly lost run, instead of waiting until nightfall to die permanently. To emphasize its importance, if you leave your controller idle for too long, the game automatically boots you back to the main menu, preventing you from voluntarily quitting a run and potentially losing earned currency upon death.

5) Make Unlocked Remembrance Objectives Always Available

In Elden Ring Nightreign, the story is largely unfolded through Remembrance Quests. Finishing adventures with particular characters will result in new chapters being added to a book, offering insights into their past. Often, these new chapters include side quests, many of which require reaching a specific location and defeating a boss. Successfully completing Remembrance Quests also grants unique Relics and rewards that can’t be acquired otherwise, making them crucial for progression.

The issue with the Rememberance tasks in Elden Ring: Nightreign is that a secondary objective only appears in Limveld when you initiate a game from a specific memory. To access this memory, you need to interact with the character book. Switching characters causes you to exit the memory, requiring you to start the process again if you want to attempt it later. This repetitive switching can be made smoother if the Rememberance objectives you’ve unlocked automatically become available in your current game, regardless of how you started playing. This is a user-friendly modification that would enhance the overall experience of Elden Ring: Nightreign.
