I’ve noticed this series is popular for a lot of things, but it really stands out because of its over-the-top battles. Each major story arc usually ends with an incredible, large-scale fight, and more times than not, Goku is the one leading the charge.
Goku is known for his incredible battles, especially those against opponents like Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, and Jiren. These fights are exciting because they feature imaginative fighting styles and unexpected plot twists, often showcasing amazing levels of power. However, some of his fights are just over-the-top and don’t make much logical sense.
Goku Makes Foolish Mistakes Against Super 17
Dragon Ball GT is still a somewhat controversial part of the Dragon Ball series, though it’s been gaining more positive attention recently. Even its biggest fans, however, often criticize the Super 17 Saga. This part of the story relies too heavily on nostalgia and hidden references, especially with the villain, Super 17. The fight between Goku and Super 17 isnāt visually impressive, and Goku doesn’t fight very strategically.
Super 17’s biggest strength is his ability to absorb energy attacks and use them to become more powerful. Goku has faced opponents with this ability before, but he keeps falling for Super 17ās trick, unintentionally making him stronger. While Super 17 can’t move while absorbing energy, Goku doesn’t have to waste his most powerful attacks on him. Gokuās behavior in this fight is strange and doesnāt really add up, and it’s just one of several things that make the battle feel illogical and inconsistent.
Vegeta and Uub seemed weaker than usual during their fight with Super 17, and Goku’s use of different Super Saiyan forms didn’t quite make sense. His final attack, the Super Dragon Fist, felt random, particularly for viewers unfamiliar with the movie Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon. The way Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu created Hell Fighter 17 while trapped in Hell also lacked a clear explanation ā it simply happened because the story needed it to.
Goku vs Duplicate Vegeta Is Hollow Dragon Ball Fan Service
Because of how Dragon Ball Super is made, every episode is officially part of the story, but some events arenāt included in the manga. One example is a storyline where Vegeta visits Planet Pot-au-feu and gets infected by a living liquid called Commeson. This liquid creates a perfect copy of Vegeta, with the same power, and threatens to take his place.
Okay, so the arc starts with Gotenks trying to handle this copy of Vegeta, but thankfully Goku shows up to really get things going! Honestly, I’m so excited to see another all-out brawl between Goku and Vegeta ā it’s going to be amazing! And it’s awesome that Brian Drummond, who voiced Vegeta in the original English dub of Dragon Ball Z, is back for this! My one big issue with the fight, though, is that Dragon Ball Super never really explained how this whole Commeson thing works, or what its limits are. It just feels a little unclear, you know?
Vegeta’s copy has fluctuating power levels, which makes it unclear how Goku is supposed to win. The whole fight feels rushed and focuses too much on just getting Goku and Vegeta fighting again, without a well-thought-out plan. Itās frustrating that this battle stretched over two episodes when it could have easily been resolved in just one.
Goku & Hitās Rematch Really Didn’t Need to Happen
One of the most memorable early moments in Dragon Ball Super is Gokuās battle against Hit from Universe 6. This fight introduces Hitās powerful Time-Skip Technique. Despite using the Blue Kaio-Ken, Goku isnāt able to win against Hit in the Tournament of Destroyers. Realizing Hitās skill, Goku comes up with a unique training plan: he asks Hit to try and assassinate him, believing it will help him prepare for the upcoming Tournament of Power.
Although risky and not particularly well-thought-out, this plan does fit Goku’s personality. However, the details of the fight feel improvised, adding unnecessary drama when Goku already being in danger should be enough. A major issue is that Goku is relying on a highly dangerous strategy heās never tried before. He intentionally lets himself be defeated, but first sends a powerful energy blast upwards.
Goku is brought back to life when a ki blast hits him, which doesn’t make sense considering how things usually work in Dragon Ball. The scene prioritizes dramatic moments over consistent rules. Similarly, a technique that traps opponents in another dimension feels inspired by series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure or Jujutsu Kaisen rather than fitting within the Dragon Ball universe.
Goku’s Fight Against Majin Vegeta Takes Several Unnecessary Risks
The first fight between Goku and Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga is still considered one of the greatest battles in the series, so it makes sense that Dragon Ball Z tried to capture that same energy later on. The Buu Saga introduces a turning point for Vegeta, leading him down a darker path. As Majin Vegeta, now incredibly powerful, heās obsessed with finally getting a decisive rematch against Goku to prove who is truly the strongest.
The fight between Goku and Majin Vegeta appears balanced at first, but itās later shown that wasnāt true. Goku held back from using his most powerful Super Saiyan 3 form to give Vegeta a seemingly fair fight. While itās admirable that Goku respects Vegeta and didnāt want to humiliate him, it feels excessive. He could have easily won the fight immediately, which would have prevented Buu from waking up and saved many lives.
When the entire planet is at risk, worrying about a fair fight is pointless. Looking back, it was incredibly foolish to hold back, even if the creator hadn’t yet imagined the Super Saiyan 3 transformation at that moment. Some argue Goku avoided Super Saiyan 3 because of its draining effect on his lifespan, but sacrificing that time is worth it to defeat Buu and end his destruction.
Gokuās Omega Shenron Fight Falls Apart Without Logic Holding It Together
The Shadow Dragons from Dragon Ball GT, despite some flaws in how they were presented, were a strong concept that many fans would enjoy seeing revisited in Dragon Ball Super. Omega Shenron, the ultimate form of Syn Shenron powered by all the Dragon Balls, served as Gokuās final obstacle. However, the biggest issue with Dragon Ball GTās final battle is that it introduces a lot of confusing and unexplained rules as it goes along.
Watching the fight, I noticed a few things that felt a little off. Gogetaās Super Saiyan 4 fusion broke apart unexpectedly ā it wasnāt something theyād built up to. But Goku did manage to land a really powerful blow on Omega Shenron, actually knocking him back down to his earlier Syn Shenron form. Thatās when Goku swallowed the Four-Star Dragon Ball, trying to stop Omega Shenron from powering up again. But then, out of nowhere, Nuova Shenron was reborn inside Goku and burst out after he ate the Dragon Ball ā it just didnāt quite make sense with what was happening.
The final attack in Dragon Ball GT is so unclear that it sparked a lot of discussion about whether Goku actually died at the end of the series. He’s hit directly by the Negative Karma Ball while gathering energy for the Super Ultra Spirit Bomb. Though he manages to defeat Omega Shenron, something feels off about Goku afterward. The ongoing debate among fans about whether he’s supposed to be alive or dead highlights how confusing the scene was.
