3 Best Shows To Watch On HBO Max This Weekend: May 9–10, 2026

This weekend, May 9–10, 2026, HBO Max offers three must-see shows that are currently receiving rave reviews and gaining popularity worldwide. From heartwarming comedies to suspenseful thrillers and hilarious sitcoms, HBO Max has a fantastic selection of new and original content you won’t want to miss.

Even though Euphoria is still the most popular show globally, there are several other excellent series available on HBO right now. You could always watch classics like Game of Thrones or the recent The Penguin, which won an Emmy, but if you’re looking for something new and exciting, these three shows represent the best of what HBO currently offers.

Half Man

Richard Gadd, the creator and star of the Emmy-winning Netflix series Baby Reindeer, is back with Half Man, now streaming on HBO Max. While it hasn’t yet reached the same level of recognition as Baby Reindeer, Half Man delivers a similar, gripping psychological thriller experience.

In the series Half Man, Gadd Ruben unexpectedly appears at his brother Niall’s wedding. The story jumps between the present and the past, showing the complex bond between Niall, who was severely bullied as a teen, and Ruben, who became his devoted but troubled protector. Currently a hit on HBO Max – ranking at #5 worldwide – Half Man is worth watching this weekend, with three out of its six episodes now available.

Hacks

The fifth and final season of Hacks is wrapping up, with two new episodes released on May 7th. Fans are disappointed there are only three episodes remaining of this critically acclaimed comedy – it boasts a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has already won 12 Emmys, cementing its place as one of the best comedies of the 21st century. The show’s brilliant chemistry between Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder perfectly captures the complicated dynamic between a veteran performer and a rising comedian.

Okay, so Hacks is wrapping up, and honestly, it’s a really satisfying return to form. Season 4 was super intense, but Season 5 feels more like the Hacks I fell in love with – all the clever jokes, quick wit, and just a genuinely funny time with characters I adore. Don’t get me wrong, Jean Smart as Deborah Vance is going for it in this final season, really pushing to deliver a fantastic ending. In fact, episode 7 of Season 5 is already being called one of the best episodes ever – seriously, you absolutely need to watch it.

Rooster

I’ve been really enjoying Rooster lately. It’s not necessarily groundbreaking television, but honestly, it’s hard to find anything bad to say about it. Steve Carell is fantastic – it’s one of his strongest TV performances in a long time. The show is just charming and offers a nice, easy watch, which is a welcome change from something super intense like Half Man. It’s become my go-to comfort show on HBO Max, and it reminds me a lot of Shrinking on Apple TV+, especially since Bill Lawrence had a hand in creating both of them.

The first season of Rooster ends this Sunday, May 10th, so now is the perfect time to watch the whole series if you haven’t yet. Since each episode is just 30 minutes long – totaling about 4.5 hours – you could easily finish it before the finale. Plus, with season 2 already planned, Rooster is a great choice to watch on HBO Max this weekend and is definitely worth checking out.
