Avowed’s Third-Person Mode Outshines Bethesda’s Best RPGs

Following a 5-day pre-release phase, the game titled “Avowed” was officially unveiled on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC earlier this week. Since then, it’s been receiving praise from both critics and enthusiasts alike. On OpenCritic, it boasts a Top Critic Average of 82 out of 100, while on Steam, it currently holds a 79% “Mostly Positive” rating. Numerous reviewers have likened “Avowed” to some of Bethesda’s top RPGs, such as “Skyrim“. Despite not being as groundbreaking as those titles, it stands out in one area: its third-person mode is considered superior.

The inspiration for this tale comes from a chilling 1980 Stephen King story, later published in his collection “Skeleton Crew” (1985). It centers around a peculiar monkey toy with the power to manipulate the mind of a boy surrounded by death, and later an adult haunted by a strange guilt. Is it the toy’s influence? Or are childhood fears simply noises we try to silence throughout our lives?
