I remember when the Ghostbusters reboot, Answer the Call, came out in 2016 – it really didn’t make much of an impact at the time. But I was reading an interview with Leslie Jones, and she actually thinks the movie is way funnier than people give it credit for! She recently rewatched it and said she genuinely enjoyed it, which is cool to hear after all this time.
During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Janelle Monáe discussed her experience with Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. She admitted that after seeing an early screening ten years ago, she hadn’t revisited the film, largely because of the negative reaction it received initially. However, years later, she happened to catch the Ghostbusters reboot on television and enjoyed it, similar to how some fans have reevaluated the movie over time.
Leslie Jones Finally Rewatched 2016’s Ghostbusters
It’s amazing how many people are watching it now,” Jones said. “I hadn’t seen it since the initial viewing. I avoided rewatching it for two reasons: I dislike seeing myself on television, and I wasn’t even sure when it originally aired. So, I just didn’t want to watch it.
She explained that she was watching a movie in a hotel and, even though she knew what would happen, she found it hilarious. She kept wondering what was coming next and ultimately realized the movie was genuinely funny.
Fans Did Not Embrace the 2016 Reboot
Directed by , Ghostbusters: Answer the Call offered a fresh take on the classic story of a team dedicated to busting ghosts. The film starred Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan, alongside Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates, Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, and Kate McKinnon as Jillian “Holtz” Holtzmann. Chris Hemsworth played their receptionist, Kevin Beckman. Original Ghostbusters cast members Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd also made special appearances.
The new Ghostbusters movie was not well-received by fans. Before it even came out, it faced a lot of criticism and broke the record for the most disliked movie trailer on YouTube. While it has some supporters, it received a mixed score of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. Made with a budget of $144 million, the film earned $229 million globally, but when marketing costs were included, it’s estimated to have lost around $70 million.
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call is streaming on Netflix.
