Sony’s first gaming showcase of the year, called State of Play, is happening on Thursday, February 12th. Experts are guessing which games will be featured. The show will be over an hour long and include games made by Sony themselves, as well as other developers. Because the show is so long and Sony hasn’t fully announced its plans for 2026, we might see several big game announcements.
The last PlayStation State of Play event was in November 2025, where they showed off new content for Elden Ring Nightreign and released a demo for Octopath Traveler 0, which had some issues despite being promising. The next State of Play is coming up on February 12th, and with over an hour of content planned, PlayStation is likely aiming to make a big impact in 2026. Several major game releases are expected soon, and rumors suggest even more announcements are on the way, so here’s a look at some predictions for what we might see.
Originally announced in September 2025, Marvel’s Wolverine is currently scheduled to release in late 2026, and we expect a firm release date to be revealed soon. While developer Insomniac Games hasn’t released any new content since 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – which didn’t receive any expansions like the previous game – they’ve still been actively working on projects.
Insomniac recently hinted that Daredevil or She-Hulk might be in their upcoming game, Marvel’s Wolverine. With the game getting closer to release, we can expect to see more hints and marketing. Many believe Logan will be featured at the next State of Play event, and we’re hoping to finally see a longer look at actual gameplay, along with a possible release date.
Death Stranding 2’s PC Port Will Be Announced
Kojima Productions now fully owns the rights to Death Stranding, which strongly suggests that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will eventually be released on PC. The original Death Stranding came to PC after its PlayStation exclusivity, and even made its way to Xbox later on. It took about eight months for the first game to arrive on PC after its initial PlayStation 4 release. If the sequel has a similar agreement with Sony, a PC version could be available much sooner than expected – potentially as early as this month, February, if we count eight months from the PS5 launch.

There’s a good chance we might see a surprise reveal at the State of Play event, and Hideo Kojima is hinting at something on Bluesky. He posted about editing a trailer – Kojima is well-known for his love of film and often directs cutscenes and edits trailers with a cinematic flair. Notably, the font used to display “A Hideo Kojima Game” appears to be identical to the one used in Death Stranding 2. This distinctive white text on a black background was featured in all of the original promotional materials and within the game itself.
Horizon Hunters Gathering Will Show In-Depth Gameplay
While fans were happy to hear about a new State of Play on February 12th, it also raised a curious point: why was the announcement of Horizon Hunters Gathering made a week in advance? Considering the huge success of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, it was surprising that Guerrilla Games simply released a trailer for the new three-player co-op game without much fanfare.
I think we’ll see more in-depth gameplay at the next State of Play event. We’ve only had brief glimpses so far, but seeing a full mission, even edited, would really show us how the game plays. This will likely also be when they announce the date for the first Horizon Hunters Gathering playtest. It’s scheduled for late February, and registration is currently open through the PlayStation Beta Program (you can sign up here), so we should get a specific date very soon.
MLB The Show 26 Gets A New Trailer Before Launch
With spring training beginning soon, a new version of the popular baseball video game, MLB The Show, is almost here. MLB The Show 26 will be released on March 17th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you can start playing four days early. It will also be playable on the upcoming Switch 2 through backward compatibility.
The choice of Aaron Judge for the game cover sparked some debate – I think Bobby Witt Jr. would be a better pick next year – but the new baseball game is almost here, so we can expect more trailers to be released soon. Keep an eye on PlayStation’s State of Play for updates.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Finally Resurfaces
It’s been almost five years since Naughty Dog’s last game, but we finally have news about their next project: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Announced at The Game Awards in 2024, the game has been quiet ever since. Considering reports suggest a 2027 release, that’s not unexpected. However, the State of Play event on February 12th would be a perfect opportunity to share more about Intergalactic and remind everyone it’s still in development.
We likely won’t see much gameplay for the new game for a while, as Naughty Dog is focusing on projects with closer release dates. However, it’s probably time we learn more about what Intergalactic will be. Given the current pace, Naughty Dog may only release one major game this console generation, so PlayStation might start promoting Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet before the PS5’s lifecycle ends.
007 First Light Will Begin Its Countdown To Release
The new James Bond video game, 007 First Light, is coming out in just three months – it’s the first Bond game in 14 years! The studio making it, IO Interactive, is well-known for its popular Hitman series – the World of Assassination trilogy. But creating a James Bond game is a whole new challenge for them.
Last September, a dedicated State of Play presentation showcased the first gameplay of 007 First Light. Since then, IOI has been gradually sharing details about the game, including its villain – played by Lenny Kravitz – and Bond’s new Aston Martin. With a lengthy State of Play scheduled for Thursday, there’s ample opportunity to feature 007 First Light again, even if it’s not entirely new content. IOI will likely want to maintain the momentum they’ve built.
God Of War’s Long-Rumored Metroidvania Gets Unveiled
Rumors suggest that a new God of War game is being developed, in addition to the next major installment in the series. This spin-off is said to be a metroidvania-style game featuring Deimos, Kratos’ brother who was a key character in the 2010 game God of War: Ghost of Sparta, which was originally released on the PlayStation Portable.
Rumors about this game have been circulating for some time, but so far, nothing concrete has emerged. If it is in development, a PlayStation State of Play presentation would be the logical place to reveal it, given the importance of God of War to the PlayStation brand. Metroidvania-style games are consistently popular – Hollow Knight: Silksong was even nominated for Game of the Year last year – and combining that genre with the well-known God of War franchise could be a winning formula.
Saros Will Show A New Trailer As We Approach Release
Custom image by Katarina Cimbaljevic
I’ve been a big fan of Housemarque for a while now, and they really blew everyone away with Returnal back in 2021. It was one of the first games that truly showed what the PlayStation 5 could do – and honestly, I still think it’s one of the best games you can get on the console. So, I’m super excited about their new game, Saros! It looks like it’s going to play a lot like Returnal, which is exactly what I want, and it’s coming out on April 30, 2026 – the fifth anniversary of Returnal’s release, which is a really cool touch.
Saros is a challenging bullet hell shooter with roguelike elements, set on the enigmatic planet Carcosa. Like other upcoming games, it’s expected to be showcased at State of Play to generate more buzz. The presentation will likely feature both gameplay footage and story details, hinting at the significant mysteries surrounding Carcosa, which are central to the game’s narrative.
Marathon Breaks Down Its Big Gameplay Changes
It’s been four years since Sony acquired Bungie, and we’re finally starting to see their first new game developed under the PlayStation Studios label. However, the game, called Marathon, faced early setbacks when it was discovered that its art style was copied from an independent artist. This caused a lot of discussion and forced the developers to re-evaluate their approach. Now, after receiving feedback from initial playtests, Marathon is re-emerging with significant improvements to its gameplay.
The launch of Marathon is almost here on March 5th, and the upcoming State of Play event could be a major showcase for the game. While ARC Raiders has shown there’s interest in the extraction genre, Marathon aims to attract players who enjoy competition, but aren’t necessarily looking for the intensely difficult survival experience of games like Escape from Tarkov. Because its release is so close, Marathon is very likely to be featured at the event on Thursday.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Reveal Its Title
Fans had hoped to see the next Final Fantasy 7 Remake game at The Game Awards 2025, but that didn’t happen. However, it looks like an announcement for Part 3 might be coming soon. While Remake is now available on the Switch 2 and Rebirth will follow later this year, the first two games in the series launched first on PlayStation. We anticipate the third game will also be exclusive to Sony’s platforms for a limited time.
State of Play seems like the most probable place we’ll finally learn about FF7 Remake Part 3, including what it’s called. While the exact title is still a secret, it’s almost certain the game will begin with Re—. It’s unclear how the remake will conclude its retelling of the classic FF7 story, but if it’s revealed at State of Play, we might get some significant clues.
