Over its seven seasons, Netflix’s Virgin River has showcased several couples, and here are the ten with the strongest chemistry, ranked from best to worst. The show, based on Robyn Carr’s novels, has been renewed for an eighth season.

Like any good romance, the heart of Virgin River is its relationships. The show’s couples face plenty of challenges and unexpected turns, with some finding lasting happiness and others falling apart.

Out of all the couples on Virgin River, these ten feel the most genuine, showcasing a wide range of romantic and physical connections.

10. Preacher & Kaia

Preacher and Kaia are a controversial couple on Virgin River. Many viewers didn’t like Kaia at first because she kept her marriage a secret, making her seem untrustworthy. But recent seasons of Virgin River suggest they can overcome their challenges and make their relationship work.

The last two seasons of Virgin River focus on Preacher’s legal troubles, Kaia’s work life, her doubts about getting married, and his dream of opening a restaurant, as well as the jealousy they both experience. Kaia eventually realizes she’s content in her relationship and no longer needs the excitement of risky adventures.

Even though this couple seems strong, their connection doesn’t quite translate on screen. Their first intimate scene, with her on the bar, felt forced and a bit silly. While they occasionally have a good moment, genuine chemistry is rare.

9. Shirley & Bert

Bert and Shirley are a lovely couple on Virgin River, though they don’t share many scenes together. When they’re not on screen, they often talk about each other, and when they are together, they’re very supportive. Their connection feels deeply romantic, even if it’s not necessarily a passionate, physical one.

Doc and Mel, when suggesting Shirley might have lupus, are both putting Shirley’s needs before their own. Shirley hesitates to accept help, worried about the financial burden on Bert. Bert, however, insists he’d do anything for her, even swallow his pride and beg, to ensure she receives the care she needs. It’s clear how deeply in love they are.

8. Sarah & Everett

Season 6 of Virgin River revealed Mel’s parents, Sarah and Everett, in their younger years, showing us how they first met. Season 7 continues to explore their relationship through more flashbacks.

Sarah and Everett immediately clicked when they met, and it’s clear why they became a couple. They have a strong connection, enjoy each other’s company, and share many interests, even though they come from different worlds.

Watching Sarah and Everett together is just beautiful – their connection feels so genuine, it actually makes me wish I didn’t already know how things turn out! Everett’s song to her was seriously swoon-worthy. It’s heartbreaking, though, because knowing their story doesn’t end well makes it hard to really get invested in anything that happens afterward. I just want them to be happy!

7. Muriel & Doc

Muriel and Doc’s relationship in season 1 of Virgin River didn’t last long, and it was pretty clear they weren’t meant to be. The show always seemed to be leading towards a reunion between Hope and Doc. Honestly, I’m happy with whatever their relationship is – whether they’re just friends or something more.

Tim Matheson and Teryl Rothery have wonderful on-screen chemistry and work so well together – they should appear in scenes together whenever possible. Their characters, Muriel and Doc from Virgin River, also naturally connect, with the script already building a believable relationship between them. They simply feel right together.

After the big fight between Hope and Doc at the end of Virgin River, I wouldn’t mind if they broke up and got back together with their exes, even though that would definitely change things in town.

6. Hope & Roland

Before marrying Doc, Hope was married to a man named Roland, and she held a deep resentment towards him for many years. They finally appear together in season 6 of Virgin River, and it’s immediately obvious they still can’t stand each other.

In season 7 of Virgin River, we find out that Roland is upset with Hope for suddenly leaving him. Hope, in turn, feels Roland wronged her by taking over her father’s business and then selling it to a rival company. However, there’s a lot more to their history, and surprisingly, they become a strong couple by the end of the season.

Hope and Roland initially shared a strong physical attraction fueled by their intense, often combative, connection – proving that love and hate can be closely linked. As their relationship developed, a deeper, more tender intimacy grew. Because of this complex and evolving connection, I’d be happy to see them explore a romance again in season 8 of Virgin River.

5. Muriel & Walt

Following Cameron’s departure from Virgin River, Muriel begins dating Walt Booth. Despite seeing limited screen time together, they quickly become a fan-favorite couple. When Walt discovers Muriel’s cancer diagnosis, he’s understanding of her decision not to share it sooner, and they continue to enjoy each other’s company as she recovers.

The connection between the actors at Muriel’s house is incredibly strong, with a clear romantic and sexual attraction. Teryl Rothery has great chemistry with all of her co-stars, so it’s no surprise she and her scene partner share a spark. Both actors deliver believable performances and have fantastic on-screen rapport.

4. Lizzie & Ricky

Even though Virgin River is trying to make Lizzie and Denny more likable, they still haven’t earned a place among the show’s best couples. They have a long way to go to win viewers over, and Lizzie previously had a much stronger connection with someone else.

Lizzie and Ricky dated from the moment Lizzie moved to town until just before Ricky left for Marine boot camp, and their relationship had great chemistry. They seemed like opposites – Lizzie was a free-spirited newcomer, while Ricky was a sweet, small-town boy. But they eventually discovered they actually had a lot in common.

The close bond between certain characters really stood out in two episodes of Virgin River season 6, especially when Ricky came back to town. This highlighted just how distant Lizzie and Denny seemed from each other.

3. Hope & Doc

Doc and Hope have a comfortable and established connection, based on genuine respect for each other. Their relationship feels real and settled, beyond the initial excitement of falling in love. While they don’t have constant, intense passion, there are occasional intimate moments that are enjoyable to watch, and their playful flirting is also a sweet part of their dynamic.

Season 7 of Virgin River really highlighted the strong connection between the characters, particularly during a memorable date at a hedge maze. However, the date took a turn for the worse and led to a difficult argument, leaving their future uncertain, especially considering they’ve struggled with trust issues in the past.

2. Mel & Jack

Mel and Jack are a wonderful couple who balance each other out, even though they have very different backgrounds and have faced many challenges. Their romantic connection is strong, and the sparks really fly between them – especially in season 7 of Virgin River.

Unlike some couples who thrive on drama, Jack and Mel’s strongest connection comes from their everyday moments. They’ve settled into a comfortable routine, so most of the initial spark and tension is gone. They’re a happily married couple who lead a pretty normal life, and that’s perfectly okay – it’s more similar to the relationship between Hope and Doc.

1. Brady & Brie

Even though I don’t think Brady and Brie are a good match personally, their connection is undeniable and they’re clearly adored by many. That’s why, despite my own feelings, I had to rank them as number one.

Honestly, I was never really a fan of Mike and Brie as a couple – most people I knew were always rooting for Brady and Brie to get back together! And let me tell you, the chemistry between Zibby Allen and Ben Hollingsworth is amazing when they share a scene. Seriously, with Brady and Brie, you just know things are about to get steamy at any moment on Virgin River!
