1 of 1,720: Salomon and Carpet Company Drop an Ultra-Limited, XT-Whisper Void

Summary

  • Salomon has teamed up with Carpet Company, a skate brand from Baltimore, to create a fresh, eye-catching version of the XT-Whisper Void shoe.

  • The van’s eye-catching look is directly inspired by the Carpet Company’s iconic 1995 “Habibi Express” Honda Acty Street van, boasting a shiny red finish and shimmering, colorful accents.

  • Only 1,720 pairs of these will be released worldwide, each individually numbered. This number is a playful reference to the address of the Baltimore warehouse where the van that inspired them is kept.

This season’s most buzzworthy footwear comes from an unexpected pairing: high-performance outdoor brand Salomon and the independent skate label, Carpet Company. Founded in 2016 by brothers Ayman and Osama Abdeldayem, Carpet Company is known for its unique, DIY approach to skateboards and designs. They’ve teamed up with Salomon to reimagine the technical XT-Whisper Void shoe, bringing a rebellious and unconventional style to outdoor footwear.

The Abdeldayem brothers didn’t seek inspiration from outdoor adventures; they found it right in their own driveway. The XT-Whisper Void design is deeply rooted in the “Habibi Express,” a memorable 1995 Honda Acty Street van that’s become a signature part of the Carpet Company brand.

Turning a classic Japanese microvan into a sneaker is incredibly challenging, but this design pulls it off beautifully. The shoe boasts a shiny, bright red color that exactly matches the van’s paint. To recreate the look of the van’s windows, the sneaker uses eye-catching, color-shifting TPU layers. Custom graphics and the Carpet Company’s signature devil horns complete the look, transforming Salomon’s practical shoe into a unique and playful statement piece.

To make this release extra special, only a limited number of pairs have been made – just 1,720 worldwide, each individually numbered. This small production run pays tribute to 1720 Llewelyn Ave, the address of Carpet Company’s Baltimore warehouse where the iconic “Habibi Express” is located. This makes the shoe not only great for running, but also a rare item for collectors.

Salomon is increasingly known for blending outdoor performance with art and community, and their new collaboration with Carpet Company shows they don’t always have to be so serious. The XT-Whisper Void shoe is limited to just 1,720 pairs and will first be available at Carpet Company stores on May 16th. It will then launch online at carpetco.us on May 17th at 8 p.m. EST, followed by a worldwide release on Salomon.com on May 21st.
