1 Month Later, Disney’s $184M Sequel Is Still Dominating PVOD Charts

The movie continues to do well online. About a month after becoming available for digital purchase, the sci-fi action sequel is still among the top 10 most popular titles in many countries.

According to FlixPatrol, Predator: Badlands is currently the eighth most popular movie on iTunes in the US, climbing two spots from yesterday. But it’s doing even better in other parts of the world, ranking as the second most popular movie in countries like Luxembourg, Portugal, and Spain.

The album Badlands has achieved top 10 status in numerous countries worldwide. It currently holds the No. 1 spot in Namibia and is ranked at No. 10 in Australia, Austria, and Belgium.

While Badlands is currently doing well, it’s not the only Predator movie popular right now. The 2022 prequel, Prey, is also a hit, currently ranking as the second most-watched title on Tubi, just behind TWIN. Interestingly, both films were directed by the same person, Dan Trachtenberg.

Predator: Badlands Brought the Franchise Back to the Big Screen

Predator: Badlands marked the return of the Predator franchise to movie theaters after a seven-year gap. The film centers on Dek, who crash-lands on a dangerous planet and must demonstrate his skills as a hunter by taking down a powerful predator. During this challenge, he teams up with Thia, an android created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.

Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and Elle Fanning star as Dek and Thia. Reuben de Jong, Mike Homik, Rohinal Narayan, Cameron Brown, and Alison Wright also appear in the film.

Critics and audiences generally liked the movie Badlands. Rotten Tomatoes reports an 86% approval rating from critics and a 95% audience score, certifying it as ‘Fresh’.

As a big fan of the Predator movies, I was happy to see the seventh installment, Badlands, do pretty well at the box office. It actually kicked things off with a fantastic $40 million opening weekend here in the States – a new record for the series! And it didn’t just fade away; it ultimately earned a solid $184 million worldwide, which is a great result.

Currently, 20th Century Studios hasn’t approved any new Predator films. Though director Trachtenberg, who also made the animated Predator film Killer of Killers, has hinted at both a follow-up to Prey and another, currently unrevealed, Predator movie.

After finishing Prey, I had three equally appealing ideas for what to work on next: Badlands, Killer Killers, and another project. So, I thought…

The director explained that while they’re interested in projects beyond the Predator series, working within the franchise has allowed them to create the films they’ve always envisioned. They’re hoping audiences enjoy Badlands and would be open to continuing with future installments.

Predator: Badlands is available to rent or own on digital platforms like iTunes.
