Coinbase Says “Fuggedaboutit!” to $20M Ransom
So, get this: some schlemiel at Coinbase took a bribe! A bribe! To hand over user data. 97,000 accounts exposed! Government IDs, email addresses… but no passwords, thank goodness. The hacker threatened to use the data for phishing. Phishing! Like we haven’t seen that before. 🙄
Instead of paying the ransom, Coinbase offered a $20 million bounty. A bounty! Like they’re Wyatt Earp. Then, this gonif moves $42.5 million in BTC to ETH using Thorchain, and sells 8,698 ETH for $22.1 million in DAI. It’s all being traced live! Like a bad episode of “Miami Vice.”
