Zootopia 2 Just Broke A Massive Disney Record That Was Held By Frozen 2

With the year 2025 drawing to a close, three Disney films – Lilo & Stitch, Zootopia 2, and Avatar: Fire and Ash – have become some of the year’s biggest box office hits. Zootopia 2 performed especially well, becoming not only Disney’s top earner but also the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of the year, surpassed only by the Chinese film Ne Zha 2. Now, Zootopia 2 has achieved another milestone, breaking a record previously held by Frozen 2.

Zootopia 2 has become the highest-grossing animated film ever, earning a remarkable $1.46 billion worldwide. This surpasses the previous record of $1.45 billion held by Frozen 2 since 2019. According to Variety, the film has earned $333 million in the United States and $1.13 billion internationally, with especially strong performance in China, where it’s grossed over $500 million. Since its release on November 26th, Zootopia 2 earned $87.9 million during its fifth weekend in theaters.

While Frozen 2 was a huge success for six years, Zootopia 2 is now the top-grossing animated film. It reached $1 billion in just 17 days – one of only three movies released in 2025 to achieve that, alongside Ne Zha 2 and the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch (originally released in 2002). Given that Zootopia 2 is still performing incredibly well in theaters over a month after its release, it makes you wonder if it could even reach $2 billion.

Picking up just a week after the first Zootopia film, Zootopia 2 follows Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) as they settle into their roles as partners at the Zootopia Police Department and investigate a new case involving a character named Gary De’Snake, played by Ke Huy Quan. The movie also features a large ensemble cast including Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Idris Elba, Shakira, Patrick Warburton, and Quinta Brunson. Jared Bush wrote the screenplay and co-directed the sequel alongside Byron Howard.

Zootopia 2 isn’t just a box office hit—critics are loving it too. After it finishes playing in theaters, Zootopia 2 will be available to stream on Disney+ in 2026. Before that, Pixar’s Hoppers will be released in theaters on March 6, 2026.
