Zootopia 2 Goes Past $1 Billion in Record Time

Disney’s Zootopia 2 has become the year’s highest-grossing animated film, reaching over $1 billion worldwide faster than any other animated movie before it.

Zootopia 2 beats all animated movies to cross $1 billion

Zootopia 2 quickly became a blockbuster, reaching $1 billion in just 17 days – faster than any other animated movie before it. It broke the record previously held by Inside Out 2, which took 19 days to reach the same milestone. So far, the film has earned a remarkable $1.137 billion worldwide, with $259 million of that coming from domestic theaters.

Zootopia 2 has quickly become a massive hit, breaking records and reaching the No. 1 spot among all movies released globally this year. It’s also become one of the highest-grossing animated films ever made, earning $877.7 million internationally. Remarkably, it has already made more money worldwide than the original Zootopia film did throughout its entire run.

The film’s impressive success is largely due to its performance in China, where it’s earned over $500 million, making it the second-highest-grossing MPA release there after Avengers: Endgame. Significant revenue also came from France ($36.4 million), Korea ($35 million), Japan ($27.7 million), and Mexico ($24.9 million). During its third weekend, the film continued to perform well internationally, bringing in another $131.1 million with only slight declines in key markets.

The success of Zootopia 2 isn’t limited to standard screenings; it’s also performed exceptionally well in premium formats like IMAX, earning $56.6 million worldwide. This makes it just the second animated film ever to reach over $50 million in IMAX ticket sales (according to Deadline).

Zootopia 2, a 2025 animated comedy from Walt Disney Animation Studios, follows detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they try to prove their innocence after being falsely accused of a crime. The pair goes on the run throughout Zootopia, searching for a new suspect named Gary De’Snake to clear their names.
