Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the sequel to Zootopia will be released on Disney+ in 2026. While a specific date hasn’t been announced, the movie is definitely planned for release on the streaming service sometime during that year.
Disney officially confirmed the sequel to Zootopia during its earnings call in early February. CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston indicated the film will likely have a theatrical release before becoming available on Disney’s streaming platforms, aligning with the company’s current release strategy.

During a discussion about Disney’s streaming plans, Bob Iger announced that both Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash will be added to Disney+ before September 26, 2026. He also noted that previous movies in both the Zootopia and Avatar series have proven to be popular with viewers.
Just to add, Hugh, we’re planning to release both Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash on the streaming service before the end of the year. As a reminder, the original Zootopia and Avatar films each had nearly 1 million first-time streams on Disney+. Plus, people have watched the first Zootopia and the first two Avatar movies for a combined total of almost 200 million hours! Adding these new films to Disney+ before the end of the year will definitely be a big benefit for the service.
Zootopia 2’s Projected Disney Plus Premiere
The highly praised sequel has become the most successful animated movie ever made in Hollywood, earning over $1.7 billion worldwide. It’s expected to follow the pattern Disney now uses for releasing its big animated films.
Recently, Disney has released its animated movies on Disney+ at different times after they premiere in theaters. For example, Elio became available on the streaming service after 89 days, followed by Inside Out 2 (104 days) and Moana 2 (105 days). However, fans had to wait over four months—133 days—to watch Wish on Disney+ after it was in theaters.
Based on how Disney has released films in the past, Zootopia 2 will probably become available on Disney+ around three or four months after it opens in theaters on November 26, 2025. This suggests we can expect to see it on Disney+ around early to mid-March 2026.
This update highlights how important big animated sequel films, like Zootopia 2, are for Disney+’s success. Because the movie did so well in theaters with families, it’s likely to be very popular on Disney+ too, following the success of the first Zootopia on the platform.
Disney views the sequel as more than just a potential blockbuster; they believe it will be a key driver of subscriptions and viewership on their streaming service long after it leaves theaters.
Zootopia 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the popular 2016 animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, which was a big hit with both critics and audiences. The first movie took viewers to the bustling city of Zootopia, where a new police officer named Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) teamed up with a sly con artist, Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman), to solve a major mystery.
