Zootopia 2 Becomes First Animation to Cross $1 Billion Global Box Office

Disney’s new film, Zootopia 2, has become the first animated movie to earn over $1 billion worldwide.

As of today, December 12th, the movie has earned $986.1 million worldwide, with $232.7 million coming from domestic theaters and $753.4 million from international theaters. It’s on track to become the second film from the studio to reach $1 billion this year, and it’s achieving this faster than any other animated movie or PG-rated film – reaching this milestone in just 17 days.

Since 2013, Walt Disney Animation Studios has achieved a remarkable feat: five of its films – Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana, Zootopia, and a sequel to Zootopia – have each grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. Jared Bush, the studio’s Chief Creative Officer, recently celebrated this accomplishment with a statement.

The entire team at Disney Animation poured their hearts into making this film, crafting a story brimming with joy, creativity, and genuine care. This achievement is incredibly meaningful to us, because it shows people are choosing to come together in theaters to experience the movie on the big screen – a diverse audience, united by a shared moment, and that’s always been our hope for this film, a true ‘Zootopia’ dream realized.
