Zooey Deschanel’s Childhood Home Destroyed in LA Fires
On Friday, I couldn’t help but share a heart-wrenching before-and-after series of photos, showcasing Zooey Deschanel’s childhood home – a place that was unfortunately reduced to ashes by the destructive Los Angeles fires.
45-year-old actress from The New Girl show shared touching photographs on Instagram, expressing her emotions as she becomes one of many famous figures who’ve sadly lost their homes due to the widespread destruction in the area.
The pictures beautifully depicted her Pacific Palisades house at its best, highlighting its breathtaking 1920s Spanish Revival design. Another image from the same location is shown, now just a pile of ashes and debris.
Zooey reminisced about her childhood home, a stunning example of Spanish Revival architecture from the 1920s. ‘Overflowing with memories too numerous to recount,’ she wrote as a caption. ‘It was one of the oldest properties in the Palisades and breathtakingly beautiful.’
She went on to say that while it wasn’t a grand mansion, it was warm and charming, one-of-a-kind, and absolutely perfect for her. That house held countless cherished memories; from Christmas dinners, Easter egg hunts, trick-or-treating, weddings, birthdays, to baby showers – we marked the finest moments of our lives within its walls.
She posted old pictures of her family having fun at their place, with her sister Emily Deschanel, who is famously recognized for her part in Bones, also featured in those images.

Zooey mentioned various memories from her family’s history: the pictures that decorated the halls, the art pieces, the piano I mastered, the wedding dishes, the furniture crafted by my great-great-grandfather – all serving as reminders of our ancestors.
‘All have vanished into thin air.’
Acknowledging the common grief, she expressed her appreciation for the flood of kindness shown by both friends and acquaintances.
She expressed gratitude to all those who pitched in, be it by providing meals, clothing, or emotional comfort.
Apart from her acting role, she additionally acknowledged the firefighters, labeling them as genuine heroes, and highlighted that the compassion displayed by the local community has eased the difficult period somewhat.
Zooey wrapped up by saying just how much all the kind gestures have meant to her and her family.
She expressed her gratitude, saying, “Each of you has demonstrated kindness from their heart. I can’t tell you just how significant that is to us.
In the face of ongoing fires, Zooey and numerous others find themselves struggling with the devastating reality of losing their homes, which is among the most affected regions in Los Angeles.
One of many structures, including Zooey’s childhood home, was unfortunately damaged by the Palisades fire that broke out on Tuesday, January 7.
Actress Cameron Mathison, a regular on General Hospital, became emotional as he shared memories of revisiting his California home, which was affected by the recent fire that spread through his community.
He shared with GMA that he’s having trouble sleeping, and all his possessions are gone, leaving him with just a hoodie, a pair of pants, and two pairs of sneakers. However, it’s crucial to emphasize the things we still have and be thankful for them, he added.
Mathison and his former spouse, Vanessa Arevalo, have resided in their Pasadena house since 2012 together with their daughter Lelia (age 18) and son Lucas (age 21).
In the Pacific Palisades, the home shared by actors Adam Brody (known for The O.C.) and Leighton Meester (from Gossip Girl) was unfortunately destroyed by the devastating wildfires as well.
In the year of 2019, I splurged on a dream abode that set me back by a whopping $6.5 million. This lavish dwelling boasted five cozy bedrooms, six opulent bathrooms, and sprawling across three stories, it spanned a grand total of 6,000 square feet. Quite the estate, I’d say!
As a lifestyle expert, I’m deeply saddened to share that some celebrated figures, including Cary Elwes, Paris Hilton, James Woods, Miles Teller, Jhene Aiko, and Billy Crystal, have unfortunately lost their homes due to the extraordinary wildfires we’re currently grappling with.
Despite the recent fire, this exclusive neighborhood remains the residence of stars like Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, and Adam Sandler. Fortunately, their homes miraculously survived the flames unscathed.
In the heart of the city, I, a devoted admirer, witnessed a portion of Mandy Moore’s Pasadena residence being devastated due to the Eaton Fire, which tragically reduced large parts of Altadena, California, to ashes.
Sadly, at least 27 people have lost their lives in the fires that spanned across LA County.
In less than a week, more than 12,000 buildings have been burnt down and approximately 60 square miles of land has been charred by the combined blazes.
