Zoe Ball confirms BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show exit

As a gamer who’s spent countless mornings tuning into the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Zoe Ball’s announcement of stepping down after six years has left me feeling like I’ve just lost a trusted morning companion. It’s a bit like when you level up your character in an RPG and they suddenly decide to quit the party without warning!

Zoe Ball has announced she’s stepping down from the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show after six years.

The broadcaster intends to continue working at the station. Details about her upcoming initiatives are set to be unveiled in the coming year, while a announcement regarding her replacement is scheduled for later today. Zoe’s final Breakfast Show broadcast will take place on December 20th.

On the air during my Tuesday morning (November 19) show, I shared some exciting news with all of you: “Hey there, wonderful listeners, after six joyful years hosting The Breakfast Show with each of you, it’s now time for me to turn off the early alarm and embark on a fresh journey.

I greatly appreciate each one of you listeners, and I consider it an honor to have spent my mornings with you. We’ve navigated life’s small victories and challenges together, haven’t we? Remember, we made it through the challenging times of lockdown as a team.

“We’ve shared a hell of a lot, the good times, the tough times, there’s been a lot of laughter.”

Zoe added that she will miss the listeners, her “amazing Prod Squad” and colleagues.

“I’m really going to miss Mike, as well as Tina and Richie. They’ve all grown to feel like family to me, just like yourselves. However, I certainly won’t miss those early 4 am wake-up calls, if I’m being truthful.

In my own words, I’m grateful to be part of such an extraordinary family at Radio 2. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to my esteemed colleagues who have stood by me, especially during this difficult period following the loss of my dear mother early this year. Their support means a great deal to me.

She added: “I simply wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude towards my outstanding female supervisors – Helen, Laura, Lorna, and Fiona. They’ve consistently provided me with unwavering support, especially during this job, and more so this year. So, thank you ladies.

Of course, this raises a significant query: Who will be your morning alarm from now on? Fortunately, you won’t have to wait much longer to discover the answer.

“I am going to reveal the brand new host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show on this show this morning.”
