Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.5 feels like the unofficial 2nd anniversary patch and here’s why

I’m so hyped! HoYoverse just announced that Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.5, called “To Be Fuel for the Night”, is coming out on December 30th, 2025. From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be huge – a brand new story chapter, two awesome new skins, and even two new characters to play as! Plus, they’re adding a new Bangboo, a bunch of events, and tons of free stuff. I can’t wait!

The latest update for Zenless Zone Zero is being celebrated by fans as a fantastic response from the developers! It’s not just my opinion – the whole community seems to agree. Many players are even calling it the unofficial 2nd anniversary patch, and it’s easy to see why they feel that way.

The patch update comes with plenty of rewards for the players

The update includes some freebies, improvements to existing characters, and many quality-of-life changes players have asked for. Plus, characters from previous updates are returning to offer assistance.

Let’s make a rundown of what we are getting so far (I won’t be touching story and event rewards)

  • Free Jane’s swimsuit outfit
  • Free S rank Agent
  • Gift of 1,000 Polychromes
  • Encrypted Master Tape ×10 and Boopon ×10
  • Top-up event to get your choice of S-Rank Agents and S-Rank W-Engines from a pool of 9
  • Several fan fav Agents, including Ellen and Burnice, will be receiving buffs and enhancements
  • Special Guaranteed character banner (Finally, no 50/50) with 20% off on the 10 pulls.
  • A new guild system with rewards
  • 6 Big events (one has co-op with fighting, yay)
  • Free w-engines (bait used to belie.. wait, it’s real?)

Free Jane’s outfit looks great

Jane’s latest assignment is pretty strange. It’s odd to think about her playing the character without her signature outfit, especially since it’s now readily available. The outfit itself is incredibly well-made and high-quality – it’s really top-of-the-line! (I wonder if we should categorize costumes by quality?) Unlike Vivian’s outfit, which players had to unlock gradually, this one will be instantly usable.

The Free agent of this ZZZ patch: Zhao

Zhao is a new playable character coming in the 2.5 update for Zenless Zone Zero. She’s an S-Rank Agent specializing in Ice Defense and is part of the Krampus Compliance Authority, which players will receive for free with this update. Many players think she’s a strong character for her rank, and her appealing design is an added bonus.

Choices of S-Rank Agents and S-Rank W-Engines

Zenless Zone Zero’s Version 2.5 update will feature a special event. By making a purchase or topping up your account, you’ll be able to choose one S-Rank agent and one S-Rank W-Engine from a selection of nine options.

It looks like earning monthly rewards and Battle Passes during the event also contribute to progress, which is great.

The Free W-Engines system

Update 2.5 will include a way to earn a special gold currency through the Battle Pass. Originally, it seemed like that was the only way to get it, but it’s now possible to purchase it directly. This is great news for players who don’t spend money on the game, like myself!

You can trade W-Engine chips for a special gold currency, which you can then use to get S-Rank W-Engines. Here’s the exchange rate: 60 W-Engine chips get you 1 gold currency, and 4 gold currency will get you 1 S-Rank Engine. This offer probably won’t last forever, but it’s a good opportunity while it’s available.

I’m going to be really busy during the holidays working on unlocking Ye Shunguang and her W-Engine, and hoping my friends will play with me. This new 2.5 update for Zenless Zone Zero is shaping up to be one of Hoyoverse’s best yet, and I’m excited to see what they do next – hopefully continuing to exceed fans’ expectations.
