Zendaya Joins Shrek 5 as Shrek and Fiona’s Daughter – Check Out Her Stunning New Look!
The first teaser trailer for Shrek 5 dropped on Thursday morning.
In the video, there’s a significant unveiling: Zendaya will portray the red-haired teenager who is the daughter of Shrek and Fiona.
Euphoria star Zendaya, 28, could bring a whole new generation of fans to the 25-year-old franchise.
Also back are Mike Myers (as Shrek), Cameron Diaz (as Princess Fiona) and Eddie Murphy (as Donkey).
In this brief sneak peek, Shrek and his companion Donkey are seen gazing into a mirror, with Donkey querying, “Ah, Magic Mirror, who is the most beautiful among us?
The mirror cheerfully replies, ‘Indeed, it’s Shrek we see here, looking quite fit!’ as it displays images of a more toned ogre.
Fiona, along with one of her daughters, quickly enter, joined by Pinocchio, who finds himself growing a longer nose when attempting to refute creating explicit images of Shrek.
In a surprising twist, the trailer reveals the names of Mike, Eddie, and Cameron, but shows even more shock when it mentions Zendaya’s name.
The trailer lists Mike, Eddie, and Cameron’s names, causing little surprise, but when it says Zendaya’s name, it catches everyone off guard.
The movie will hit the screens in December 2026, marking it as the first major installment since Shrek Forever After back in 2010.
Meanwhile, with a considerable wait ahead for this movie, some enthusiasts have started expressing worries about the quality of the animation, whereas others suspect that DreamWorks might be exploiting an outdated franchise for financial gain.
Previously known as Twitter user “@dontcallmejazz” expressed his displeasure about the excessive extension of a franchise, suggesting it’s time for Shrek to be allowed to move on.
@JadePalace1976 wrote, ‘Woke and O.G graphics were better.’
Meanwhile, many found the news about Zendaya exciting and eagerly await the movie. However, just as many found the animation style peculiar or strange.
Perhaps, @galactanegro suggested, ‘Could there be a reason behind their appearance? It seems like their daughter might be residing in another dimension or universe.’
@tsfionagirl chimed in, ‘why does Donkey looks so bad now?’
Shrek is based on the 1990 picture book from writer and cartoonist William Steig.
In the year 2001, the franchise made its first appearance with a movie introducing Shrek, a lovable ogre, as he set out on a mission to save Princess Fiona, played by Diaz.
The film claimed its initial Academy Award as the Best Animated Feature and amassed over $488 million in global box office earnings.
Shrek 2 followed in 2004 and told the story of Shrek meeting Fiona’s parents.
2007 saw the release of Shrek the Third, a movie where Shrek embarked on a quest to discover his successor as king, while 2010 brought us Shrek Forever After, exploring Shrek’s struggles with a midlife dilemma.
As of now, there’s no information available about the plot of the fifth movie or whether it will follow the same animated style as the brief trailer released to announce Zendaya’s role in the film.
Initially, the first four movies generated over $2.9 billion globally, leading to a live-performance tour that visited numerous countries and received eight Tony Award nominations as well as twelve Drama Desk considerations, according to Deadline.
In 2011, the movies titled “Puss in Boots” and its follow-up “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (Oscar-nominated) belong to the collection known as the Shrek series.
Zendaya’s slate of work has been packed for the last few years.
Last year, Zendaya appeared in Dune: Part Two, as well as Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers.
Her forthcoming itinerary featured Dune: Messiah, the fourth installment of Spider-Man, and the much anticipated third season of HBO’s Euphoria.
She is also planning her wedding to Tom Holland after getting engaged on January 6, 2025.
