It’s common for male celebrities to be taller than their significant others, but there are definitely couples where the woman is the taller one.

There are plenty of women who tower over their men on the red carpet.

Historically, tall women were sometimes referred to as ‘Amazonian’ or ‘viraginous.’ The term ‘viraginous’ comes from the Latin word ‘virago,’ which described a woman with traditionally masculine qualities.

Over time, these old-fashioned ideas about a woman being taller than her partner have become less common and are now generally seen as unimportant by most people.

A recent study in the Netherlands found that most men are taller than their partners – around 92% of the time. Only about 4% of women are taller than their male partners, while the remaining 4% are the same height.

Many popular actresses, including Zendaya, Cameron Diaz, Chrissy Teigen, Elle Fanning, and Gwendoline Christie, are actually taller than their partners.

Joining the list are Eniko Hart, Tina Fey, Devon Windsor, Erin Darke—who is dating Daniel Radcliffe—Clare Grant, who is married to Seth Green, Stacy Keibler, and Rhea Durham, who is married to Mark Wahlberg.

TOM HOLLAND AND ZENDAYA

Holland: 5ft8in; Zendaya: 5ft10in

During an appearance on Graham Norton’s BBC show in 2021, Tom Holland and Zendaya playfully discussed the difference in their heights.

Tom Holland and Zendaya, both stars of the Spider-Man movies, talked about a challenge they faced during a stunt: Holland couldn’t easily catch Zendaya because she’s taller than him.

Zendaya, known for her role as MJ in Spider-Man: No Way Home, described a scene where Spider-Man carries her to the top of a bridge, and they both jump off.

He was instructed to carefully set MJ down on the bridge and then move away. Because of the difference in our heights, if we were standing in the same spot…

“We had a real connection, didn’t we?” Holland suddenly asked. Zendaya laughed and replied, “We always seemed to land in the same spot. My feet would touch down just before his!”

This caused the crowd to erupt into laughter, including presenter Graham.

Holland described how the stunt was performed. He jokingly explained that Zendaya would land while he played the superhero, needing to appear cool. He demonstrated by standing up and swinging his legs, showing how she would then catch him.

The actress shared that her partner surprisingly enjoyed being playfully scolded. She described his reaction as sweetly grateful, saying he’d respond with something like, ‘Oh my God, thank you!’ He then jokingly added that it was a welcome change to be the one ‘caught’ doing something, amusing the audience.

CAMERON DIAZ AND BENJI MADDEN

Diaz: 5ft9in; Madden: 5ft6in

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have been a couple since May 2014, and they have a noticeable difference in height.

Despite their height difference, the couple, married since 2015, doesn’t seem to mind. She frequently wears high heels when she’s with her husband, showing she’s comfortable with her height and doesn’t try to appear shorter.

The couple have been nesting in recent years as they have daughter Raddix and son Cardinal.

The Charlie’s Angels star has yet to show the children’s faces on social media or a red carpet.

Cameron Diaz first gained widespread recognition with her roles in the films The Mask and Along Came Mary. She’s also famous for her work on the Shrek animated movie series, alongside Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy. Her most recent film was Back in Action.

ELLE FANNING AND GUS WENNER

Elle Fanning and her boyfriend Gus Wenner have been together for almost three years.

They have been seen traveling in Europe and walking in New York City hand-in-hand.

He has been wed to stunning model Eniko Parrish – who is an impressive 5ft7in – since 2016.

This comes after the two weathered a cheating scandal over six years ago.
