Zack Snyder Fuels Snyderverse Return Hopes With 7 Never-Before-Seen Justice League Photos

Zack Snyder, the director behind many DC films, recently shared some behind-the-scenes photos from his cut of Justice League as rumors circulate about a possible sale of Warner Bros. Snyder launched the DC Extended Universe in 2013 with Man of Steel. Though that film’s ending – where Superman killed General Zod – sparked debate, Snyder went on to direct the sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which introduced Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Zack Snyder was originally chosen to direct the Justice League movie, but his intended version wasn’t released until 2021. A dedicated fan campaign convinced Warner Bros. to debut his four-hour cut on HBO Max. While the Snyderverse is now over with the launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, Snyder continues to share photos from his Justice League film on Instagram, hoping to revive interest in it.

Henry Cavill’s Superman

As many expected, Zack Snyder announced in October 2025 that Henry Cavill would once again play Superman, just four months after David Corenswet first appeared as the character in James Gunn’s Superman film. Snyder shared a photo of Cavill in his Superman costume from the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the announcement.

This photo of Henry Cavill as Superman was taken with my black and white 50mm lens. I’ve enjoyed my three weeks on Instagram and want to thank everyone for their support.

A Stunning Look at Deathstroke

Snyder showcased a fantastic portrayal of Deathstroke by Joe Manganiello, describing it as the ideal take on the character.

I took this photo using my Leica monochrome camera and a special 50mm lens from Zero Optik LLC. A big thanks to Joe Manganiello for perfectly portraying Deathstroke!

Ben Affleck’s First Time in the Suit

The director posted a Polaroid picture of Ben Affleck trying on the Batman suit for the very first time, and described the experience as exactly what he’d envisioned.

I took a black and white Polaroid photo of Ben, a 4×5 print, when he first tried on the costume. It was exactly what I’d envisioned.

One of His Favorite Batman Photos

The director of the Snyderverse also shared what he called “one of his favorite Batman photos,” featuring Ben Affleck wearing the Knightmare suit and sitting down.

This is one of my favorite Batman pictures. I shot it using my Leica Monochrom camera. We actually built the small set you see just for these portraits.

A Closer Look at Knightmare Batman

Just like Zack Snyder revealed Henry Cavill as his Superman, this close-up shot of Ben Affleck is his way of officially stating, “This is Batman.”

I took this photo of Ben in the portrait studio I created for the Justice League. It’s clear – he truly embodies Batman.

A Film Strip of Superman

Zack Snyder shared an old film still of Henry Cavill as Superman, describing it as Cavill looking completely at home in the role.

A Special Look at Jared Leto’s Joker

Zack Snyder recently released a striking image of Jared Leto as the Joker from the alternate, dystopian future in his DC films. The photo shows the Joker wearing a Gotham City Police SWAT vest and holding a gun, offering a dark and unsettling glimpse of Batman’s foe.

Zack Snyder’s New Snyderverse BTS Photos Could Hint at Something Bigger

Zack Snyder says he’s sharing behind-the-scenes photos to mark the start of his Instagram account. However, some wonder if there’s more to it, especially since Warner Bros. is currently a potential acquisition target for companies like Netflix (where Snyder’s films Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead are available), Paramount Skydance, and Comcast. The timing of these posts seems noteworthy given these potential business deals.

Recent moves by Snyder suggest a possible return to his vision for the DC Universe if the current sale goes through, which would be exciting news for dedicated fans. This hope was recently fueled when Netflix posted a photo of Henry Cavill as Superman from Black Adam to promote the film’s availability on their platform.

Whether Zack Snyder knows about the discussions happening at Warner Bros. Discovery is unclear. However, his recent online activity might be a way to signal his continued interest in completing his vision for the DC Universe, especially since his original storyline was left unfinished with the arrival of the new DCU.

The DC Universe and the existing DC Extended Universe could both continue, with Zack Snyder’s films potentially fitting into a separate ‘Elseworlds’ category. If Netflix were to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, many believe this could open the door for Snyder’s vision to be completed, giving the director and his fans the conclusion they’ve long hoped for, starting with his Man of Steel movie.
