Zachary Quinto says there’s no cutoff to when the cast of Star Trek 4 could return
As a lifelong Star Trek fan who has followed the adventures of the Kelvin timeline crew since their debut, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about the potential return of the team for Star Trek 4. While it’s heartening to hear Zachary Quinto express his interest in reprising his role as Spock, it’s been a long wait, and I’m growing as old as some of the original cast members who starred in movies well into their 50s and 60s.
The elusive Star Trek 4 movie, which was potentially in development, might or might not materialize. Although recent developments suggest otherwise, its production remains uncertain. The original cast has moved forward with their careers, but they express continued interest in reprising their roles. Zachary Quinto, who portrayed Spock in the Kelvin timeline trilogy, is among the principal actors eager to return.
In an interview with Variety, the actor expressed that he’s receptive to the idea and finds it appealing, even if the project doesn’t start immediately. Quinto highlighted that the original Star Trek cast appeared in movies even in their 50s and 60s, suggesting that there’s no specific age limit for a film studio to consider them too old. In fact, Patrick Stewart reprised his Star Trek role at the age of eighty, demonstrating that age might not be a significant factor when the movie eventually gets made. Therefore, Quinto’s perspective seems valid, as it appears that the cast’s age may not matter much when the film comes to life.
There’s no cutoff. The original cast did movies for decades, well into their 50s, 60s. The stories might be different. We might not be running as fast on the other planets, but I think anything’s possible, and I think there’s nothing more fulfilling as an artist then [sic] to come back to something after time has passed, and cultivate a relationship with it from a completely different perspective, and a completely new point of view.
Despite some fans not being fully satisfied with the trajectory of Picard, there’s still a good chance we’ll see the main cast from the Kelvin timeline films return to our screens, as many of them are yet to celebrate their 50th birthdays.
This statement doesn’t imply that we want Paramount to prolong the production of Star Trek 4 unnecessarily. In fact, given that this is being marketed as the concluding story in the Kelvin timeline, a lot of us would prefer to watch it as soon as possible since we are in our fifties and sixties.
