Zachary Quinto, known for his role as Spock, recently reprised the character’s iconic pointy ears after nine years. However, he’s currently focused on television, having returned to NBC for season two of Brilliant Minds, where he plays Dr. Oliver Wolf, a physician who struggles with face blindness.
The cast of Quinto’s Brilliant Minds also features Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears, Brian Altemus, John Clarence Stewart, and Al Calderon.
On October 27th, the show Brilliant Minds featured a Halloween episode where Zach Quinto’s character, Dr. Wolf, dressed as Spock from Star Trek. Before the episode aired, Quinto and his co-star, Perry (as Uhura), shared a fun Instagram post with Comic Book showing off their costumes and ending with the iconic Vulcan salute.

Michael Grassi, the showrunner, shared with TV Insider that Zachary Quinto was enthusiastic about bringing his well-known Star Trek character into an episode of Brilliant Minds focused on Halloween. Grassi also mentioned a specific scene includes an elevator sound effect that Star Trek enthusiasts will instantly recognize.

While this episode had some lighthearted moments, like the doctors dressing up as characters from Star Trek for Halloween, it mostly focused on heavy emotional storylines. Dr. Wolf continued to struggle with the loss of a patient, and other members of the medical team were forced to confront difficult experiences from their pasts. They also treated a patient who collapsed while in an ice bath.
Zachary Quinto has appeared in many popular TV shows, including 24, Heroes, American Horror Story: Asylum, NOS4A2, and American Horror Story: NYC. However, he became a household name thanks to his role as Spock in the three Star Trek movies directed by J.J. Abrams.
The films Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond reintroduced beloved characters like Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov, this time played by a new generation of actors including Chris Pine, Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin.
Leonard Nimoy first portrayed Spock in the original Star Trek series, which ran from 1966 to 1969. Following a portrayal by Zach Quinto in the films, Ethan Peck took on the role of the half-Vulcan character in Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Following his role as Spock, Quinto later starred in the TV series Brilliant Minds, which has received positive reviews, earning an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
With the conclusion of season five of Strange New Worlds, the future of the character Spock is uncertain. While some involved with the show are hoping for a spinoff set during the time of Star Trek: The Original Series, no official plans have been made public yet.
For a while now, there’s been discussion about making a fourth Star Trek movie in the Kelvin Timeline series. According to reports, Paramount is currently working on a script as they plan the future of the Star Trek films.
Brilliant Minds airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
