The dispute between YouTube TV and Disney is over! After nearly two weeks without Disney channels, and many frustrated viewers, the companies have agreed to a new deal. Channels are now back on YouTube TV.
As a big Disney fan, I’m so relieved to hear that channels like ABC, ESPN, FX, and National Geographic are finally coming back to the streaming platform! It was frustrating not having access to all that content, so this is great news.
We’re excited to announce that Disney content is returning to YouTube TV! You should start seeing channels like ABC, ESPN, and FX reappear throughout the day. Thank you for your patience and continued support.

YouTube TV announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Disney channels would start reappearing on the service Friday. They didn’t give a specific time, but said the channels would be restored gradually as their systems updated in different areas. This is good news for the millions of viewers who lost access to Disney channels on October 30th.
The Blackout Timeline
The problem started at the end of October when Google (which owns YouTube TV) and Disney couldn’t agree on a new contract. As a result, all of Disney’s TV channels suddenly became unavailable. This meant viewers lost access to ABC, ESPN—right in the middle of sports season—as well as FX and National Geographic. Local news broadcasts were also cut off in many areas.

Sports fans were particularly upset by the disruption. With so many major sporting events happening – NFL, NBA, NHL, college football, and more – the lack of ESPN caused a lot of frustration. People took to social media to complain about missing games and to ask where they could find alternative ways to watch.
To help ease the irritation, YouTube TV issued a $20 bill credit to all impacted subscribers.
A Resolution—With One Big Question Still Pending
Now that the service interruption is over, one big question remains: will YouTube TV customers be able to subscribe to ESPN Unlimited, Disney’s new, more expensive sports package?

After the news was shared on X, fans quickly started asking questions. They flooded the comments on YouTube TV’s post, wanting to know if ESPN Unlimited access would now be free. So far, neither Disney nor YouTube TV has answered this question. This remains the main sticking point in their negotiations, as it’s still unclear whether the agreement covers the premium ESPN tier.
Other streaming services often include options for more expensive plans, but it’s currently unclear if YouTube TV’s new agreement will do the same. For now, subscribers will have to wait for an official announcement from either company to know for sure.
Industry Implications
As a movie and TV critic, I’m seeing a familiar pattern emerge, and this latest disagreement really underscores the challenges facing streaming services that try to mimic traditional cable. These platforms, often called ‘virtual MVPDs,’ are getting squeezed by ever-increasing costs for the shows and games we love, and at the same time, viewers are changing how they watch. Disney, in particular, seems determined to revamp the whole system of licensing its content, and this isn’t just happening with one distributor – they’re pushing for changes across the board. It’s a clear signal they’re trying to find a new financial sweet spot for sports and entertainment.

ESPN is a pricey channel for TV and streaming providers because it costs a lot to broadcast its sports content. This often leads to tough negotiations, and recently, a disagreement between ESPN (owned by Disney) and YouTube TV played out publicly, raising concerns about how easily streaming customers can be affected when these kinds of disputes happen.
Channels Return, But Future Updates Expected
The TV blackout is now officially resolved. Many viewers are starting to get their channels back, and full service should be restored overnight. Recording features for channels owned by Disney will also work again once the signals are fully stable.

Despite the positive updates, subscribers should still watch for further announcements, particularly about any price adjustments and the ongoing issue with ESPN Unlimited.
As a huge movie and TV fan, I’ll definitely keep a close eye on what’s happening with Disney and YouTube TV, and I’ll share any new info as soon as I get it. You can count on me to keep you updated!
