Young Thug’s probation on the line: Prosecutors file motion to get rapper back in custody
Music artist Young Thug may face a potential return to prison following his recent racketeering trial, several months after its conclusion.
On Wednesday, Atlanta authorities submitted a motion to a judge seeking to revoke the freedom of rapper “Pushin P” (Jeffery Lamar Williams) and immediately place him under custody. The reason given was his alleged breach of probation by exposing the identity of a witness in a trial regarding a “multi-defendant gang murder.” This exposure is said to have been done through social media.
According to a motion reviewed on Thursday by The Times, it was stated that since the [Williams] has been sentenced, their actions have posed an immediate danger to both witnesses and prosecutors, undermined ongoing legal cases, and are severe enough to promptly revoke probation, as they pose a threat.

The final YSL group trial concerning racketeering has come to an end: The jury declared the last two suspects not responsible for racketeering, murder, and gang-related accusations.
In October, Williams admitted his guilt in relation to gang, drug, and firearm offenses, effectively wrapping up a long-running RICO trial that had been ongoing for over a year. At the time of sentencing by a Fulton County Superior Court judge, he was given 40 years imprisonment, with the initial five years to be served behind bars. However, this sentence was reduced to ‘time served’, followed by 15 years on probation. If he successfully completes his probation without any infractions, an additional 20 years will be reduced to ‘time served’. But if he breaches the conditions, he’ll have to serve those 20 years.
According to the judge’s ruling in October, some conditions of Young Thug’s sentence include:
1. Prohibition from associating with individuals associated with gangs, victims of this case, or other defendants.
2. Restriction from endorsing any criminal street gang or gang-related activities.
3. A ban on using hand gestures or language that supports street gangs.
As stated in the motion, the court had earlier instructed that the witness should not appear on TV during testimony. However, it is claimed that a well-known blogger disregarded this order by posting a social media update which exposed the witness’s identity and visual appearance. The motion also includes a screenshot of this alleged violation.
On Tuesday, Williams reshared the blogger’s post with the comment “this person is the most dishonest individual in the District Attorney’s office” attached as a caption. The court document additionally contained an image showing the rapper’s original post.

The judge ordered Young Thug to spend 40 years in total punishment, with the initial five years behind bars, however this was reduced to the amount of time already served in prison. Following his release from prison, he will be on probation for 15 years.
The prosecutors stated that the musician’s post, which was subsequently deleted, rapidly gained widespread attention, amassing over 2 million views and thousands of comments and retweets, many containing alleged direct threats against the witness and their family. Photos in the motion reveal that some users on the former Twitter platform persisted in disseminating the witness’s identity and personal information, such as their home address. Additionally, another social media user threatened to take personal action to ensure the assassination of a prosecutor involved in Young Thug’s case, as indicated by another screenshot.
The shift from threatening a testifying witness to issuing a clear, life-threatening statement against the elected district attorney of Fulton County represents a severe and unparalleled assault on our judicial system,” the document stated.
The recent series of social media updates are claimed to be “a deliberate strategy aimed at creating an atmosphere of intimidation, harassment, and spreading false information, with the ultimate goal of interfering with legal proceedings.” It’s been suggested that Young Thug’s social media behavior resembles typical actions of criminal organizations.
I advocated for the immediate revocation of Young Thug’s probation. This action is necessary to safeguard against any potential future harm, uphold the law, and deliver a firm message that intimidation of witnesses and threats towards public officials will not be accepted or ignored.

In this rephrased version, we can say that Attorney Brian Steel, who represents rapper Young Thug in his RICO case, has successfully avoided serving 10 weekend imprisonments. This outcome was achieved because the court in Georgia decided to put off a judge’s ruling on contempt.
In response to The Times’ query for a comment, Williams’ attorney didn’t provide an immediate response, however, it appeared as though the “Go Crazy” artist himself addressed the matter on Wednesday.
He tweeted on Wednesday evening that he doesn’t consider being kind to people as a sign of his goodness, nor would he ever endorse or engage in any form of threat towards anyone. Instead, he stands for harmony and compassion.
