The film producer Jeremy Thomas from “The Last Emperor” and Jerzy Skolimowski and Ewa Piaskowska from “EO” are involved in the production process. Recorded Picture Company, who previously produced “EO” and “High-Rise,” along with Skopia Film, are backing the production of this movie.

The film titled “Good Boy” recently debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, garnering generally favorable responses from movie critics so far.

The film, as stated by Screen International, has an undeniably captivating quality, with its intentionally quirky, finely-tuned neo-gothic tale. This narrative seems to imply that redemption can bloom even in the most dismal settings, and that authentic liberation stems from faith.

The film’s acting was highly commended by TheWrap, with the review stating that it shines particularly in the powerful performances delivered by Graham and Boon. Their portrayals cover different stages of rehabilitation, providing a compelling contrast.

Deadline notes that, similar to some of Yorgos Lanthimos’ early works, the peculiarity of the plot carries much of the film’s weight. However, the actors breathed life into characters that could have otherwise been flat and one-dimensional.

Simultaneously, Film Festival Today stated that “Good Boy” offers an enjoyable twist in its narrative development. Initially, Tommy appears to be a certain character, but as the story unfolds, there’s a lot more depth to him. Some aspects may push credibility limits, yet they all manage to keep us engaged throughout the movie.

What is Good Boy about?

The story Good Boy primarily revolves around Tommy, a teenager who embraces a lifestyle filled with drugs, wild parties, and brutality. However, during a night of mischief with his friends, he gets lost from the group and is mysteriously taken away by an unidentified individual named Graham.

As a gamer, I found myself in an unexpected predicament – waking up chained in the basement of a secluded suburban home, belonging to none other than Chris (Graham), his eerie wife Kathryn, and their innocent-looking son Jonathan. The shock and fury coursed through me like lightning, even for someone accustomed to meting out violence in my virtual world.

The family is making efforts to change Tommy’s misbehavior, using persistent strategies that either make him follow their rules strictly, or find a way out regardless of the circumstances.

Who else is in Good Boy?

Alongside Graham as Chris and Boon as Tommy, Good Boy also stars:

1. Andrea Riseborough, known for ‘The Regime’, plays the role of Kathryn.
2. Callum Booth-Ford, best recognized from ‘Peaky Blinders’, portrays the character Ste.
3. Kit Rakusen, famous for ‘The Phoenician Scheme’, embodies Jonathan in the story.
4. Austin Haynes, previously seen in ‘Unforgivable’, takes on the role in the production.

When will Good Boy be released?

The specific UK cinema release date hasn’t been announced yet, but starting from next month, the movie will be screened for the first time in Britain during the BFI London Film Festival on October 9th and 11th. Tickets will become available to the general public on September 16th.
