You Won’t Believe What Kathleen Kennedy Just Said About Her Star Wars Future

For the past 13 years, has been a key figure at Lucasfilm. Throughout this period, there have been significant victories and dismal setbacks. Pondering her tenure at Lucasfilm alongside ScreenRant during Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy shared insights about her transition from being a filmmaker to a studio executive, a role she had never held before. In her words:

“It was enlightening to assume the position at Lucasfilm, as I had previously been only a filmmaker and not a studio executive.

I found myself in a new role, as I hadn’t held executive positions before; my background was in filmmaking. My curiosity piqued, I eagerly sought to catch a glimpse of the inner workings. And let me tell you, I’ve absorbed a great deal of knowledge… I feel incredibly lucky to have this career and continue learning fresh insights. The complexity of it all has truly amazed me.

After George sold the company and it joined Disney, discussions have been centered around where these movies belong within such a large corporation, how they maintain their distinctiveness as Lucasfilm productions, how to preserve their cultural identity, and how we can hold onto the values and ideas that George established around this mythology, which is arguably one of the most significant in cinema history.

My team and I frequently discuss our exceptional collaboration, constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries of what was established by George. Each day brings new opportunities for us to test ideas and put them under scrutiny, making this journey a truly delightful one.

Kathleen Kennedy Is Not Going Anywhere

In similar fashion to high-ranking professionals when performance isn’t at its best, criticism arises and whispers of replacing the leader emerge. As for Kennedy, there have been recurring demands from certain Star Wars fan circles for her departure, and rumors about her impending retirement.

“I’m not retired. I’m not going anywhere.”

The Star Wars universe is poised for growth in the coming years as several upcoming films are being crafted by directors such as Shawn Levy, Taika Waititi, James Mangold, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni, among others.
