You won't believe what 1990s sitcom star is going to play a space pirate in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew!

As a die-hard Star Wars fan who grew up watching Urkel’s antics on Family Matters, I can hardly contain my excitement for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew! The idea of seeing Jaleel White, the man behind Steve Urkel, transformed into an alien space pirate is pure gold. It’s like the Force has brought together two of my favorite universes in a way that only the galaxy far, far away can manage.

A fresh look at “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” introduces a well-known television character in an unexpected role as a space pirate. Discover more about it here!

Fans of Star Wars are experiencing disappointment over “The Acolyte,” which was terminated following just one season due to mixed reviews. However, the franchise is proceeding with “Skeleton Crew,” a fresh series offering a child-friendly perspective on the Star Wars cosmos.

The show, set within the same time period as other Star Wars series such as “The Mandalorian,” centers around a group of four youngsters that were propelled from their home planet and must figure out how to return. During their journey, they stumble upon an unconventional guide in Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law), who carries a secretive past.

In line with tradition for a Star Wars series, the creators have been secretive about the details, but Entertainment Weekly recently offered a glimpse into the storyline. This period, which follows the collapse of the Empire and precedes the emergence of the First Order, appears to be chaotic and lawless, so it’s likely we’ll encounter some pirates in this galaxy far, far away.

According to co-showrunner Christopher Ford, given our current period, it feels like we’re dabbling in a lawless phenomenon. Since the Empire no longer exists, there’s a surge of piracy happening in a particular region of the galaxy, which we get to explore.

Co-showrunner Jon Watts mentioned that the show drew inspiration not just from past Star Wars pirate stories but also from the popular LucasArts video game, Monkey Island. This game, along with its sequels, brought a playful twist to pirate tales and is highly respected within the gaming community. According to Watts, this combination of the game and Star Wars history seemed to be our perfect fit or “sweet spot.

The story includes an image of some pirates the kids face. Among them is a familiar face in Vane (Marti Matulis), who clashed with the heroes in The Mandalorian. There are also some wild creatures like Brutus (voiced by Fred Tatasciore and played by performance artist Stephen Oyoung), Pax (performance artist Mike Estes), and Chaelt (Orange is the New Black’s Dale Soules).

Among our gaming crew, it’s hard to ignore Gunter, the cyborg character, who’s none other than Jaleel White from the iconic ‘Family Matters.’ Yeah, you got it – he was the super-geeky Steve Urkel! Despite his impressive acting journey post-’90s sitcom, he’ll always be synonymous with clumsy chaos. The thought of him in the Star Wars universe, rocking a pirate look, is just electrifying!

Looking forward to additional information, but the depiction of Urkel as a space-faring pirate alien makes Skeleton Crew a promising series not to be missed.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premieres Tuesday December 3 on Disney+.
