You Won’t Believe the First Look at Mister Terrific in James Gunn’s Superman Remake!
Movie director James Gunn praises one of his beloved characters from the forthcoming DC Universe movie, stirring excitement for the upcoming summer blockbuster. To celebrate the character’s anniversary, Gunn offers a sneak peek at Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific.
Through X (formerly known as Twitter), Gunn shared a backstage photo from the Superman set featuring himself and Gathegi in full Mister Terrific costumes. The image showcases his signature black mask, along with what seems to be the initials of the Justice League emblazoned on his suit. In the caption, Gunn expressed his delight about Mister Terrific, saying he has enjoyed being the one to introduce this character to the big screen for the first time.
Gathegi will play the character Michael Holt, who debuted in DC Comics’ Spectre (Vol. 3) in June 1997 and is a more recent version of Mister Terrific. A genius inventor who took over from Terry Sloane as Mister Terrific, Holt is a member of the Justice Society and has an extraordinary ability to become invisible to technology due to his T-Spheres. Gunn announced this news in March to celebrate Holt’s birthday.
In a previous venture, Chiwetel Ejiofor isn’t new to the world of superheroes, as he played Darwin in “X-Men: First Class” and Mr. Smiles in Netflix’s “The Guardians of Justice”. Besides these roles, Ejiofor is well recognized for his parts in the “Twilight” movie series and “The Harder They Fall”.
In the upcoming remake of Superman directed by Gunn, Mister Terrific will join forces with other superheroes such as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan’s Rex Mason/Metamorpho. The movie also introduces some of Superman’s main antagonists, including Nicholas Hoult’s character, while focusing on David Corenswet’s portrayal of the Man of Steel during his initial years at the Daily Planet. Living in Smallville, Kansas, he grapples with embracing his Kryptonian roots. The film also highlights Clark Kent’s romantic interest, Lois Lane (yet to be cast), and Wendell Pierce as Perry White, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet.
Superman Is Expected to Be a Massive Success at Warner Bros.
Gunn’s reimagining of Superman, a production he both wrote and supervised, is generating significant excitement as one of the highly anticipated summer films. It has elicited favorable responses, even amid rumors about possible management shifts at the studio. Warner Bros.’ co-CEO, in particular, finds it reminiscent of traditional Superman movies.
Superman opens in theaters on Jul. 11.
