YOU WON’T BELIEVE The First Berserker: Khazan
Atomfall (PlayStation, Xbox, PC, £54.99)
Verdict: Different but disjointed
Indeed, I find myself captivated by this charming Cumbrian hamlet. Towering over it all, a church steeple stands proudly against the backdrop of sturdy stone walls and slate roofs. The sweet aroma of freshly baked goods wafts from the nearby bakery, its windows adorned with colorful iced cakes. Here, a bandstand serves as a gathering place for locals, where leisurely hours seem to pass at a snail’s pace.
By the way, there was an ominous plume of radioactive contamination shooting up towards the heavens from the shattered structures of a local nuclear power plant.
Or:
Noticeably, a tall column of hazardous radiation was ascending into the atmosphere, coming from the damaged reactors at a nearby atomic facility.
Both options convey the same information, but the second one may sound slightly more formal.
Step into the 1950s universe of Atomfall, an imaginative blend of the Fallout series with a distinctly British flair – demonstrating that life indeed can be harsh in the north.
At the facility, you’ll need to uncover the events that transpired there, along with figuring out how you ended up in the bunker, learning about yourself, and addressing all the typical mysteries.
So far, as I say, so Fallout.

Not much time passes before Atomfall acts independently, and as soon as I encountered a group of these birds occupying the locked-down area, they swiftly attacked me without delay.
As a die-hard enthusiast, let me tell you, this isn’t about wielding power, it’s about stealth, endurance, and scavenging for whatever rusted weaponry and limited ammo I can find to stay alive in this world.
Atomfall’s scenery is fragmented into separate zones instead of one extensive open world. Additionally, it delivers tasks differently from typical games. Instead of traditional quests with obvious indicators, you unearth a string of ‘clues’ to pursue at your own pace.
This innovative effort shows promise, but it occasionally creates a fragmented feeling in Atomfall, as if one is unsure of the location or purpose upon arrival. Instead, I might opt for a visit to that cozy tea shop nearby.
The First Berserker: Khazan (PlayStation, Xbox, PC, £49.99)
Verdict: Difficult but delightful
Occasionally, a title gives away most of its essence. In this instance, we’re dealing with a game named “The First Berserker: Khazan”. Unsurprisingly, it centers around a bulky brute wielding an enormous sword, hacking through hordes of monsters in pursuit of vengeance. Grrr!
What more is there to say? A few things, I guess.
The First Berserker proves to be quite challenging, certainly for someone like myself who lacks dexterity.
Similar to the Dark Souls series, which serves as its inspiration, this game requires precise timing when using your controller to dodge and maneuver around enemy assaults, followed by equally precise timing for delivering powerful counterattacks.

However, this instance is remarkably harsh, even among the harsh examples of its kind. In certain challenging situations, such as boss battles, it often seems like a single error… and that’s game over for you.
Though it may seem challenging at first, sticking with it is definitely worthwhile. I, who am known as The Clumsy Warrior, eventually began to see progress after some time passed, as my strength and abilities grew. The feeling of growing proficiency is incredibly rewarding.
In addition to this harsh fantasy universe created by Neople for their Dungeon & Fighter game, one might describe it as both grim and beautiful. It’s characterized by its dark, crimson hues and eldritch elements. However, the anime aesthetic adds an unexpected charm to it, making it aesthetically pleasing despite its ominous nature. The visuals are captivating.
They’ll need to continue feeding me, as I haven’t completed “The First Berserker” yet. It’s quite challenging, as you know, so here I’ll dive back in, ready to play with the controller once more. Roar!
Since I’m still working on “The First Berserker”, they’ll have to keep giving me some time to finish it. It’s tough, as you can imagine, so here I go again, getting ready to play with the controller. Growl!
