You Won’t Believe Tati Gabrielle’s Hidden Connection to The Last of Us
The second season of “Euphoria” is currently in high gear, both literally and metaphorically. With viewers still reeling from one of the most surprising TV events in recent times, it’s a good idea to pause and examine the fresh faces that have joined the cast. Apart from Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Tati Gabrielle stands out as Nora, a military medic and ex-Firefly.
Gabrielle could be familiar to numerous individuals due to her appearances as Gaia in “The 100”, Prudence Blackwood in “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, Hannah Kim in “Kaleidoscope”, and Marienne Bellamy in “You”. Some viewers may also recognize her voice from “The Owl House” where she plays Willow Park. In the realm of video games or adaptations, Gabrielle has previous experience, as evidenced by “The Last of Us“, and gaming fans can expect to see more of her in the future.
Tati Gabrielle Starred As The Villainous Jo Braddock In Uncharted
A Mercenary On The Hunt For Ferdinand Magellan’s Treasure
Previously, Naughty Dog didn’t debut its first adaptation with “The Last of Us”. Instead, the adaptation journey for their popular treasure-hunting action series, Uncharted, had been underway for over a decade before it hit screens in 2022. Despite the lengthy development process and filming amidst the initial wave of COVID-19, Uncharted became a massive box office success, earning over $400 million as one of the first major movies to lure audiences back to cinemas.
The response from critics and fans was somewhat divided on Uncharted, with much criticism directed towards Tom Holland’s portrayal of Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan. However, Uncharted currently boasts an 89% rating on the Popcornmeter at Rotten Tomatoes and is set for a sequel, though no filming dates have been confirmed yet.
In the movie “Uncharted“, Gabrielle takes on the role of Jo Braddock, one of the two primary antagonists alongside Antonio Banderas’ character Santiago Moncada. Braddock is a mercenary and treasure hunter employed by Moncada, a Spanish nobleman. Moncada maintains that since his ancestors financed Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage in the 16th century, he is owed Magellan’s wealth. In an extreme move, Moncada dispatches Braddock to assassinate his own father, who felt that his son didn’t deserve the Moncada legacy.
Other than knowing that Braddock was involved in the hunt for Magellan’s treasure, little is known about her past. However, it’s been revealed that she and her crew once confronted Sully and Sam, Drake’s brother, who were also pursuing the same treasure. In this altercation, Braddock wounded Sam, causing Sully to abandon him, assuming him dead. Besides being a competitor to Drake, there is a personal connection between them that adds tension to their pursuit.
In my viewpoint, one of the most captivating aspects of this story is its formidable antagonists. Though Moncada was not fully utilized, he and Braddock embody the essence of typical Uncharted villains perfectly. Braddock’s portrayal as a mercenary serving under the primary adversary might remind Uncharted enthusiasts of Nadine Ross from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. However, Gabrielle manages to bring something unique and distinct to her role, setting herself apart in the pantheon of memorable Uncharted villains.
Gabrielle Will Partake In Mortal Kombat As Jade In Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat Has A Unique Link To The Last Of Us
In 2025, apart from her role in The Last of Us, viewers will also see Gabrielle playing the character Jade in Mortal Kombat 2. The much-anticipated sequel to the 2021 reboot is set for release on October 24. Interestingly, unlike its predecessor which premiered on Max due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mortal Kombat 2 will have a theater-exclusive debut. Joining Gabrielle in this action-packed sequel is her co-star from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, who has also starred in a video game adaptation as Billie Wesker in Netflix’s Resident Evil.
In “Mortal Kombat 2,” the heroic team of combatants will confront Shao Khan and the realm of Outworld, following the game’s storyline from “Mortal Kombat II.” Jade, the female ninja with a green outfit in the series, made her appearance as a hidden character in “Mortal Kombat II.” She became fully playable for the first time in “Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3,” where she wields a Bojutsu staff. Since then, Jade has gained popularity among fans and was one of the most sought-after characters for downloadable content in “Mortal Kombat 1.” However, it remains unclear what part Jade will play in the movie, other than her being close to Kitana. There’s speculation that she might take over Mileena’s role if Mileena is not included in “Mortal Kombat 2,” but could potentially reappear later on. As of now, we only have a low-quality image of Jade’s face from the film.
Viewers of The Last of Us might recognize Mortal Kombat II since it’s the arcade game that Ellie and Riley play in the episode “Left Behind.” Interestingly, the original game version of The Last of Us didn’t include Mortal Kombat II, but instead featured an in-game counterpart called The Turning, which bore a strong resemblance to Mortal Kombat. In the remake of the initial game and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Ellie can wear a shirt inspired by Mortal Kombat, symbolizing the bond between these two series.
Gabrielle Will Be The Lead In Naughty Dog’s Next Game
Gabrielle Stars As A Bounty Hunter In The Sci-Fi Game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
Speculation about a potential third installment of “The Last of Us” series has been swirling, given that the TV adaptation is now adapting “The Last of Us Part II”. Fans of both the game and show are concerned about a scenario similar to “Game of Thrones”, where the adaptation exceeds the original material, resulting in an unsatisfying final season or more. However, fear not, as a “Game of Thrones”-like fiasco won’t occur – because there won’t be a “The Last of Us Part III”. At least, not for quite some time. Co-creator Neil Druckmann has effectively dashed hopes when he stated, “As for more ‘Last of Us’, I guess I would say don’t bet on it.” This sentiment is further reinforced by the upcoming game bundle titled “The Last of Us Complete”.
For the first time since “The Last of Us” in 2013, Naughty Dog is embarking on a new intellectual property. At The Game Awards 2025, Naughty Dog revealed their next project, titled “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet“. Unlike Naughty Dog’s recent titles focused on treasure hunting action and zombie apocalypses, “Intergalactic” is a science fiction game set in the far reaches of space thousands of years from now. True to its name, “Intergalactic” follows an alternate history where intergalactic space travel was achieved as early as 1986.
Individuals acquainted with Gabrielle might recognize similarities between her and the game’s main character, Jordan A. Mun. Gabrielle lends her voice, motion capture abilities, and likeness for the role of Mun. Mun is a bounty hunter in pursuit of a Five Aces criminal syndicate member, leading her to Sempiria – a barren planet isolated from others for centuries. No one has ever left Sempiria and returned to tell the story. Mun must navigate this distant world, uncover its past, battle mechanical adversaries, and strive for escape – all while collecting her bounty.
Gabrielle will be accompanied by Five Aces members portrayed by Kumail Nanjiani and Tony Dalton. The same individual who has written several episodes of Season 2 of the program will provide the voice for Mun’s agent, AJ. Troy Baker, known for voicing Joel Miller in The Last of Us video games and making a cameo as Nathan in Season 1 of the show, has also been cast in Intergalactic, though his specific role remains unspecified. In relation to this, Mun’s jacket, as depicted in the trailer, has now been included in The Last of Us Part II Remastered as an outfit for Ellie, aligning with the game’s launch on PC.
The launch date for the game “Intergalactic” hasn’t been set yet, but considering the prestigious history of “Uncharted” and “The Last of Us”, which have garnered numerous Game of the Year awards, it’s reasonable to anticipate that “Intergalactic” will also meet such high expectations. Notably, the actors from both “Uncharted” and “The Last of Us” have won accolades for their performances, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Gabrielle also earns awards when “Intergalactic” is eventually released.
Regardless, it’s evident that Tati Gabrielle’s star is on the ascent, making it intriguing to anticipate her future professional endeavors.
