Shay Mitchell, famous for her roles in shows like Pretty Little Liars and You, is joining the cast of Fox’s new Baywatch reboot. She’s best known for playing Emily Fields in Pretty Little Liars, and will be part of the show’s already impressive lineup of actors.
This new version of the classic show, featuring Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff, introduces a fresh team of lifeguards in Los Angeles. Stephen Amell, known for his role in Arrow, plays Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff’s original character, Mitch.
Actress Mitchell will play Trina, a smart former lawyer who gives up her career at a prestigious firm to become a lifeguard. The character is described as enthusiastic but also prone to self-doubt (according to Variety).

The show describes Trina as the most intelligent person on Baywatch. She’s driven by her passions and always tries to do what feels right, though she often overthinks things, despite her impressive intellect.
The series, which premiered in 2023, follows Hobie as he tries to live up to his father’s reputation. His life is disrupted when Charlie Vale (Jessica Belkin), a daughter he didn’t know existed, arrives wanting to carry on the family tradition.

I’m so excited to see Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Brooks Nader as Selene, and Noah Beck as Luke joining the cast! And get this – David Chokachi is coming back as Cody Madison! He was amazing in the original series, playing Cody from 1995 to 1999, and I can’t wait to see what he does with the role now.
The new Baywatch series, created by Matt Nix, is beginning production in Los Angeles and is planned to premiere in the 2026-2027 television season. The first season will have 12 episodes, but whether the show will continue beyond that is still uncertain.
Mitchell shared the news of her casting on Instagram, posting a screenshot of the Variety announcement. She captioned it with a playful comparison: a photo of her pretending to be a lifeguard in 2017 alongside the news of her Baywatch role in 2026, referencing her character Emily’s storyline on Pretty Little Liars.

The original Baywatch series, often called a fun but slightly embarrassing favorite, lasted for 12 years. It had 11 seasons with a total of 241 episodes, and the last episode aired in 2001.
The story was adapted into a movie in 2017 starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. While it didn’t do poorly in theaters, critics generally didn’t like it.
The Baywatch legacy sequel series hasn’t yet confirmed a release date.
