A sneak peek at the debut trailer for the forthcoming ITV drama titled “The Hack,” featuring Toby Jones and David Tennant, is now available to view.
The series portrays the News International phone hacking scandal, a controversy where it was discovered that employees from News of the World engaged in illegal phone tapping, bribing police officers, and exerting undue influence to obtain news. As a result, the newspaper was ultimately closed down.
Featuring Jones portraying editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger of The Guardian and Tennant as investigative journalist Nick Davies, the trailer offers a sneak peek into the upcoming production, with Tennant providing a narration.

Nick Davies here, speaking about a tale that concludes with no less than seven significant police probes, close to forty indictments, and several influential individuals within our nation faced with their downfall.
Additionally, the trailer shows brief moments of Davies delving into his investigation and the intricate network of deceit it exposes. Scenes hint at the peril that such probing of phone hacking and corruption accusations might bring upon those who pursue them.

Alongside Jones, Tennant, Steve Pemberton, Dougray Scott, and Eve Myles are part of the cast for the seven-part series. The roles they will play include media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and TV host Jacqui Hames respectively (as reported by Deadline).
Among the other prominent actors are Robert Carlyle portraying DCS Dave Cook, Rose Leslie, Adrian Lester, Katherine Kelly, Kevin Doyle, Neil Maskell, Lara Pulver, Lee Ingleby, Pip Torrens, Lisa McGrillis, and Sean Pertwee.
In this drama, which spans the years from 2002 to 2012, the narrative cleverly combines two actual events. One is the tireless investigative work of journalist Nick Davies, portrayed by David Tennant, who uncovered evidence of illegal phone hacking at The News of the World newspaper.

Running alongside it, the tale unfolds about the ongoing investigation into the perplexing murder of private detective Daniel Morgan, spearheaded by retired Metropolitan Police detective chief superintendent Dave Cook, portrayed by Robert Carlyle.
The show, jointly penned by Jack Thorne, the writer behind Adolescence, has been deemed significant by ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill. In fact, she referred to the talented ensemble cast as absolutely extraordinary, according to ITV.
The Hack will air on ITV and STV in the autumn.
